Henceforth a dumping of links, 29 / 6 / 09

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the dumping of links.  Allow me to introduce myself as your fairweathered host, Noava22.  Or DJ Toad, as my radio persona would lead you to believe.

Anyways, let us begin with a discussion about ye ol' Cards.

Cardinals acquire DeRosa.  Might he be included in a Holliday swap?  Old news. yes, but still newsworthy.

USA Soccer forgot it's big boy pants in the lockerroom at half, the 5% of America that cared collectively facepalmed.

And finally, something for all the fathers-to-be out there (NSFW?  scientific but sexual - nothing seen though)

Let's hope the Cards acquiring DeRosa makes Brett Wallace tradeable for Holliday.

Of course that would mean that the team FINALLY addresses one of its biggest needs

So I’m skeptical.

Who knows. They had DeRosa in LF the other day *shrug*

But then they released a 2B to start off the season.

Now THAT’S redundant and unproductive.

And in addressing your big needs

you need to acquire a big player.

Turns out that if we get Wallace, we will be selling jeans. Toughskins “huskies”.

This picture is from his college days, but still...

There’s a reason scouts doubt whether he can play 3B for long.

considering Derosa’s a rental?

reds interested in holliday

maybe start a mini bidding war between nl central teams.
GABP is a launching pad so they might view a pickup of holliday as an improvement desite AL struggles.
Plus reds might be more willing to deal, take a risk…1 playoff series in 19/20 yrs

From a Fast Company article

One Lesson From the Crisis: It’s Time to Create Your Own Economy
By: Tyler Cowen

[snip]…A tweet may not look like much, but its value lies in the mental dimension. You use Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and other Web services to construct a complex meld of stories, images, and feelings in your mind. No single bit seems weighty on its own, but the resulting blend is rich in joy, emotion, and suspense. This is a new form of drama, and it plays out inside us — with technological assistance — rather than on a public stage.

Online, you can literally create your own economy. By that, I mean you can build an ordered set of opportunities for prosperity and pleasure, analogous to a traditional economy but held in your head. There is no obvious monetary transaction, but you’re using your limited resources to get a better deal — the very essence of economics. In fact, “economics” comes from oikonomia, the ancient Greek word for household management, and the modern practice of economics is returning to that idea.

The traditional gauge of economic success is profit, but over time we’ll find that such statistics as measures of GDP tell us less and less about broader efforts to improve human well-being. Much of the Web’s value is experienced at the personal level and does not show up in productivity numbers. Buying $2 worth of bananas boosts GDP; having $20 worth of fun on the Web does not. And this effect is a big one. Each day more enjoyment, more social connection, and, indeed, more contemplation are produced on the Web than had been imagined even 10 years ago…[/snip]

The Diamondbacks and Brewers are reportedly discussing a trade involving unspecified players.

Arizona left-hander Doug Davis and reliever Felipe Lopez are two names that are believed to intrigue Milwaukee.

“Because they’re one of the few clubs with available pieces, their asking price is way too high,” Brewers assistant general manager Gord Ash told reporters. “So they don’t have to make a deal yet.”

The Nationals and Mariners have swapped minor league outfielders Ryan Langerhans and Mike Morse.

Washington acquired Morse, who can also play in the infield, for Langerhans.

The move doesn’t affect either team’s the 40-man roster.

White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen says that his team’s fans are much smarter than those of the rival, cross-town Cubs.

“Because our fans are not stupid like Cubs fans,” Guillen said. “They know we’re [expletive].”

Guillen added that fans will watch any game at Wrigley Field because the stadium “is just a bar.”

Although its really stupid of Kenny Williams to bend down to him when making trades (see: Swisher/Yanks, Vazquez/Braves).

Mets manager Jerry Manuel hinted on Sunday that the club might need to make a deal for a hitter.

“I think if we get below that (.500) mark and we continue to struggle offensively as we are, I think that’s a no-brainer,” Manuel said of making a deal for a hitter. “I think we have to visit that. It has to be talked about at some point. It would be dishonest if I said no.”

Another legacy of this year's club

Thanks to that 5-13 interleague beating we just took we dropped farther away from the best AL interleague team. Remember the good ‘ol days when playing the NL amounted to about 10 free wins on the schedule for us? We’re still third in the majors for overall interleague win percentage (.557, tied with LAA & CWS). Yankees and Twins are above us. Here’s hoping we climb back to the top next year.

And Miley heads back to the Central Valley...

So that means that Crosby is the everyday 3B? Or that Nomar is allegedly able to play the infield?
