4 In The 9th! 7 Unanswered Runs At The End! (A's Lose)

The A's had a game plan and they executed it, yet things still didn't work out. Perhaps that's because the game plan included Trevor Cahill allowing HRs in each of the first 4 innings, spotting the Rockies an 11-2 lead, and having Jack Hannahan, Bobby Crosby, and Rajai Davis up as the tying runs against Huston Street. The game plan might need some work.

Anyhoo, the first 6 innings saw the A's fall behind 11-2 and ended with a play that seemed relatively insignificant at the time -- Matt Holliday, trying to score from second, was gunned down on a perfect throw by one of the men for whom Holliday was traded, Carlos Gonzalez. By the time the A's scored 1 in the 7th, 2 more in the 8th, and 4 more in the 9th (clearly positioning themselves to score 8 in the 10th), that lost run looked more meaningful, as did the excused absences, in the late innings, of Holliday, Garciaparra, Giambi, and Cabrera.

Leave it to the 2009 squad to score 9 runs and lose. But at least the A's battled in the end, I suppose. Yay!!!! Ice cream for everyone!!!!
