GOG 2009 #25
The Colorado Rockies are coming to Oakland for the A's last interleague series of 2009 (I mean, unless they go to the World Series... and I don't really see that happening). The Athletics have stumbled their way through interleague play, with a 5-10 record so far that is second worst in the AL (one game ahead of Cleveland).
But these Rockies are probably not the best team to face when trying to salvage the interleague glory of past Oakland seasons. In fact, they are the hottest team in baseball this month, having won 17 of their last 20 games (but that still hasn't gotten them close to the Dodgers in the NL West).
Also, I can't go without mentioning the big offseason trade between the A's and the Rockies, which brought us Holliday and gave Colorado their current closer and outfielder. Is this Rockies team really "more talented" than Oakland, as suggested by a brash youngster? Well, let's watch the series and we can all decide on that question after we see Bobby Crosby flail at Huston's slider in the 9th inning.

GOG #25 :: Yes, this season has been very Rockie (33 points possible)
Three game series vs Colorado Rockies -- June 26-28
UPDATE -- Answers added below in bold
- Series outcome [3 points] 3-0 Colorado
- Does Matt Holliday go deep against his former team? [+1 if right, -1 if wrong] no
- Over at Beyond the Box Score, Sky suggests that, once you account for Coors Field and the crappy defense, the Rockies pitching staff might actually be the best in baseball. How many walks, strikeouts, and home runs allowed for Rockies pitchers in the series? [2 points each] 10 BB, 21 K, 1 HR allowed (Suzuki)
- Will C-Gon back up his trash talking? Predict his AB/H/R [2 points each] 7 AB, 4 H, 2 R
- Replacement Unicorn Power is wearing off. After a 3 for 13 performance against the Giants, Kennedy's batting average has finally slipped below .300. How many hits does Kennedy bang out against the Rockies? [3 points] Kennedy gets 2 hits
- Tulowitzki's hot month of June corresponds exactly with the Rockies' strong results. How many RBI for the Rockies shortstop? [3 points] 1 RBI for Tulowitzki
- How many runs do the A's score in support of Braden? [3 points] Oakland scores 2 runs in Braden's start
- In 23.2 innings so far with the A's, Edgar Gonzalez has yet to give up a home run (this accounts for why he has a sparkly 3.18 FIP, despite mediocre strikeout and walk rates). Does he allow a long ball in this series? [+1 if right, -1 if wrong] nope
- How many appearances, saves, and strikeouts for Huston? [2 points each] 3 appearances, 3 saves, 4 Ks
- The most exciting outcome :: Will there be any triples hit in the series? [+1 if right, -1 if wrong] yep. Patrol Craft triples off of Cahill, Helton triples off of Casilla.
The series gets underway at 7:05 pm. Post your guesses and make them count!

number 25!
We’re approaching the middle of the GOG season. I’m hoping to post some more standings and summaries for a GOG all-star break special, but I also will have a 27 hour international flight right then, which could be a problem.
