Open Thread: Game 70 - A's vs. Giants (cont)
The only rule about facing Tim Lincecum: Don't give up any runs. Mazzaro opened the game with two, 2-run innings, putting the A's in a 4-0 hole. Giambi has homered to get one run back, but the A's have six innings to score three more.

Which boils down to: he's a very good pitcher and this is a group of very bad hitters.

I mean, we’ve “tipped our caps” to much, much, much, much worse.

agree 100%
Lincecum is a tremendously good awesome pitcher. I mean, the guy won the CY Award last year while playing for a real bad team. Losing tonight, while painful to watch, would not exactly be a surprise. Last Sunday’s loss was much harder to take.

Yeah, but with Nomar you know what you're going to get:
He’s going to swing early in the count, make contact, and probably hit the ball hard. (And with Lincecum-Hannahan, you’ll get a K.) So you take Nomar as he is and hope he finds a hole; he didn’t.

You need someone a bit patient at that point and someone who can actually run. Nomar is neither. And Normar is too rusty to rely on.
