Open Thread: Game 70 - A's vs. Giants (cont)
The only rule about facing Tim Lincecum: Don't give up any runs. Mazzaro opened the game with two, 2-run innings, putting the A's in a 4-0 hole. Giambi has homered to get one run back, but the A's have six innings to score three more.

Which boils down to: he's a very good pitcher and this is a group of very bad hitters.

I mean, we’ve “tipped our caps” to much, much, much, much worse.

agree 100%
Lincecum is a tremendously good awesome pitcher. I mean, the guy won the CY Award last year while playing for a real bad team. Losing tonight, while painful to watch, would not exactly be a surprise. Last Sunday’s loss was much harder to take.

Yeah, but with Nomar you know what you're going to get:
He’s going to swing early in the count, make contact, and probably hit the ball hard. (And with Lincecum-Hannahan, you’ll get a K.) So you take Nomar as he is and hope he finds a hole; he didn’t.

You need someone a bit patient at that point and someone who can actually run. Nomar is neither. And Normar is too rusty to rely on.

ok, so, like, that was never out
but Geren’s running toward the umpire with arms outstretched in supplication was one of the funniest things i’ve seen in a while

I would much rather have all K's that inning
then watch the A’s leave more runners on base. Ifricking hate that crap.

That was a very bad call
by a good ump (Mike Reilly). Reilly had a clear look, too.

Didn't appear to actually look at the transfer.
Which is probably why he missed the call

he's a lousy shitty ump now
Bad night my ass. Nico, the son of a bitch was even a yard off the bag!

The "neighborhood play" gives him that
If he had caught the ball cleanly, we wouldn’t have any issue with where his feet were.

I want the league to see, the drunk opium pig, worst call I’ve seen in a decade, easily.

Although I do think you're being a little harsh on alcohol and opium.
Those are good things

I don't know about the worst call ever
umps always give infielders a break when I runner is trying to break up a play.

but he never even had possession of the ball nor was he anywhere near the base
by jdub69 on Jun 23, 2009 9:05 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree it is the wrong call
but it happens very fast. I’m more mad at the hitters leaving all those guys on base.
