Jon Wilhite Recovery Fund: First Update (WITH UPDATE UPDATED!)
As AN continues to collect donations for the Jon Wilhite Recovery Fund that Kurt & Renee Suzuki have set up, I plan to give periodic updates and this will be the first one.
Please note that we will accept donations for as long as they come in, but I am planning to send in the first main batch of donations in about a week -- so if you wish to participate but have not yet gotten around to doing so, please consider sending your donation in the next couple days.
Here is where we are so far, as of today's mail:
I have now received 23 donations totaling $870.00:
* 4 donations of $100.00
* 5 donations of $50.00
* 1 donation of $25.00
* 6 donations of $20.00
* 1 donation of $15.00
* 6 donations of $10.00
This total does not include:
* A $100.00 "matching pledge" by LibrariAN that we can now cash in on for getting 5 $20.00 donations.
* A $100.00 "matching pledge" by iglew if/when we hit a total of 10 $10.00 donations.
* Any checks already in the mail that have not yet arrived to Berkeley.
* Donations that have made through baseballgirl's PayPal account (those are not yet tabulated).
If you wish to participate and have not yet done so, you can either send a check payable to "Jon Wilhite Recovery Fund" to:
Jon Wilhite Recovery Fund c/o
1152 Euclid Ave.
Berkeley, CA 94708
Or you can donate through PayPal to baseballgirl's PayPal account (baseballgirl1976@hotmail.com), and baseballgirl has pledged to cover all PayPal charges as her donation.
Finally, some of the donations have come with notes, like one that arrived today that I thought I'd share: "I never met Nick but he was my sister's nephew. (She is married to the brother of Nick's mom, Janet.) I am praying for the souls of those who died and for a full recovery for Jon. This is not much money, but I want him to know that people near and far -- friends and strangers -- are pulling for him."
It's not about the money, it's about the participation -- participate and the money will be there. Thanks again to those who have donated and to those who will. It's for a good cause.
{UPDATE, Tuesday 4:25PM PDT} Please see my comment in the thread for an updated total that includes PayPal and today's mail.

By direct, you mean sent straight to Southern California not through AN?
I hope ANers who are donating are doing so either through the address or through BBG’s paypal, so we can give proper credit!

I thought it was only rewarding if I got a standing ovation
That’s why I never help anyone. You rarely get a standing ovation, so to heck with my CPR training – they can just lie there.

I'll send you $60 now,
so it can be counted with the first batch.
If you get more $10 donations, I’ll match the rest with a second check later.

Sounds great; thanks, iglew!

Just sent my contribution to baseballgirl's PayPal.
In case it wasn’t noted earlier, if you’re sending your donation via PayPal, be sure to click “Personal” (instead of “Purchase”) and choose “Gift”. Pay using a bank account rather than a credit card. Doing this means neither you nor bbg will have to pay any PayPal charges.

I will rec this and hope others do too...
That way the address for the donations will be easy to access.
I just sent $20 via paypal to BBG
Thank you again BBG for giving us this option.

Yup, decided to quickly take care of it before I forgot through PP
And for some reason PP forwarded me to the add bank account page when I hit send o_O I already had one linked- but it says the transaction went through so hopefully it did!
I’ll try to send more when I can.
Thank you, adragon and fruitattack!
I’ll get the numbers from bbg when I have a chance and report back with a more accurate, and updated, running total mid-week.

The numbers have been sent!
And confirmation emails should have been sent to you as well, bcc-ing each donor.

Got the email - $270.00, from 11 additional donors through PayPal,
as of this morning. Adding to that 4 checks I received today totaling $110.00 and we are now good for:
$980.00 in checks
$270.00 in PayPal donations
$220.00 in pledges
-————————————
$1,470.00
plus…whatever is still to come…
Thank you, all!

Threw in $20
Hopefully that gets us close to tipping $1500. $20 isn’t much to make a difference but hopefully each person lets everyone know that we don’t forget about them…
I know I sound like a broken record,
but $20.00 DOES make a difference. It gives us not only $20.00 more towards the cause, but it gives us a 41st (as of this writing) participant to further inspire those who plan to participate to get around to it. To me it’s all about participation; the dollar amount will take care of itself if enough people participate at any level.

42!
Hopefully we can get it to 50 at least. Come on, folks!
Another to the total
I’ll get mine mailed out today

I sent Susan Slusser an e-mail this morning
to let her know about what AN is doing for Jon Wilhite, along with what the Suzuki’s have oragnized for their auction.
