GOG 2009 #21
I grew up in southern Marin, which is generally acknowledged to be Giants territory, but for some reason I could never get behind the team from San Francisco. Maybe it was the ugly color scheme. Maybe it was just too thrilling to watch Stew pitch or Ricky run. Maybe it was because one of the first baseball games I went to was this one (side note: I was just looking at that box score and they intentionally walked Walt Weiss twice? WTF?).
I guess it's a bit anti-climactic to bring up a World Series clinching game in advance of a mid-season interleague series between two teams who are a combined 15 games out of their respective divisions. But hey, any time the green'n'gold face up against the hideous black'n'orange, it's another chance to prove to your co-workers, your high school buddies, your neighbors, that the real number one team in the Bay Area is the one from Oakland. Go A's and GOG away!

GOG #21 :: Shrink the Giants! (34 points possible)
Three game series @ San Francisco Giants -- June 12-14
UPDATE: answers, courtesy of doctorK, are added below in bold
- Series outcome [3 points] 3-0 Giants
- Pitchers batting, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria! How many hits for Oakland pitchers in the series? [3 points]0 hits
- Does Randy Johnson earn win number 301? [+1 if right, -1 if wrong] yep
- Holliday, back in the NL West :: Predict his AB/H/HR [2 points each] 11 AB, 3 H, 0 HR
- So far this season, Pablo Sandoval is swinging at 46.3% of pitches out of the zone, and making contact with 78.4% of those. This puts him right in Vlad Guerrero territory! Despite all this, he is managing to OBP a respectible (though very BA heavy) .364. How many pitches does Sandoval take, for strikes or balls, in the whole series? [3 points] Sandoval takes 12 pitches
- Rajai Davis, playing like they do in the National League :: How many sacrifice bunts for Rajai? How many stolen bases? [3 points each] 0 sac bunts, 0 stolen bases
- Your guy may be good, but our guy has an ERA of 0.00! How many Ks for Lincecum? How many ER for Mazzaro? [3 points each] 8 Ks for Lincecum, 3 ER for Mazzaro
- Trouble in the bullpen :: How many earned runs for Oakland relievers? [3 points] 2 ER for the A's pen
- Does Chris Denorfia get to start a game in the series? [+1 if right, -1 if wrong] no
- Wouldn't it be nice if Brian Wilson didn't get any save opportunities? I mean, that would really give me some good vibrations. Uhh... help me, Rhonda? But, getting down to business, does Wilson earn a save in the series? Does he blow any save opportunities? [+1 for each right answer, -1 for each wrong] yes, he gets a save. no, he doesn't blow one.
Lincecum's first pitch is at 7:15. Guess away!

My two cents
Series outcome: A’s win two of three
How many hits for Oakland pitchers in the series? Only one.
Does Randy Johnson earn win number 301? No, he’ll get a L or ND.
Holliday, back in the NL West :: Predict his AB/H/HR: 11/3/0
So far this season, Pablo Sandoval is swinging at 46.3% of pitches out of the zone, and making contact with 78.4% of those. This puts him right in Vlad Guerrero territory! Despite all this, he is managing to OBP a respectible (though very BA heavy) .364. How many pitches does Sandoval take, for strikes or balls, in the whole series? 6
Rajai Davis, playing like they do in the National League :: How many sacrifice bunts for Rajai? How many stolen bases? No bunts, but 2 steals.
How many Ks for Lincecum? 7 K
How many ER for Mazzaro? 2 ER
How many earned runs for Oakland relievers? 3 ER
Does Chris Denorfia get to start a game in the series? YES
Does Wilson earn a save in the series? Does he blow any save opportunities? One opportunity, one save.
