DLD 5/6/09 - random links

I know most people on AN won't find these links interesting but this is the only onIine community I am a part of so I will share them with you. I don't have much else to add besides links.  I have a hard time puttin' them there words together in an entertaining way.  But I just couldn't pass up the posting this link.

"Rap Chop" featuring Vince (Steve Porter's Slap Chop remix)

This infomercial has made the DLD before but this is the remix.

Zombie Pitcher

I wonder which Red Sox this was modeled after?

This next video is from some French guys (don't hold it against them) . There are some curse words in sub-titles, just to warn someone at work.  It is best with the sound on, my favorite part comes at the 1:00 min mark when a golfer hits "Pac-Mac" with his club because he tried to "power up" with his chicks golf ball.

video-real-life-pac-man

They have also done a live action Mario Kart but it wasn't as funny.

Any Firefly fans out there?

The Race part 1

Worlds Oldest Dog (as seen on Yahoo's home page)

Her cataracts force her to wear special doggie glasses

hhmm, doggy glasses, never seen that before.

Weighty moment: Scales smacks MLB hit after 11 years in minors

Good for you Scales

And finally

American Idol

Danny Gokey and Kris Allen performed "Renegade" by Styx

That duet was awesome IMHO, mostly because I really like the song. Listen for yourself.  Renegade , scroll down for the embedded video.

That song was used in an episode of Supernatural once, and it worked extremely well.

Cowell saved harsher jabs for (Kris) Allen's solo performance. The Arkansas heartthrob sang the Beatles' "Come Together," and Cowell compared his cover to "eating ice for lunch." Meaning, it leaves "you with nothing to remember afterward," he said.

Usually I agree with Simon but I think he was dead wrong last night.  Kris did an great job, especially that part in the middle where the guitars cut out.  I think the judges came into the night already thinking Adam would be the best and it clouded their judgement.  Don't get me wrong, I think Adam did very well but he wasn't as great as the judges made him out to be.

Hope someone found something they liked here, Dump Away AN.

I posted this in 67M's old DLD, this DLD is fresh

Isn’t the purpose of the DLD just more ways we can waste our time here? The idea is a collection of links, some baseball, mostly not (and the more absurd the better.) We made an example out of 67M and others about "open link in new window."

Today maybe we can discuss what that little red line means under your words.

Tomorrow the value of the Preview button.

Enjoy the game

I made sure all my links open in new windows

I’m pretty sure I tested them all. I hate it when a link replaces my page, once I a clicked a link while filling out a GOG and it changed the page and erased all me answers. I would be mad at Colin except he puts a ton or work into the wonderfulness that is the GOG, so I blame myself instead.

Someone just asked me if a class that gives 30% A's is a weeder course....

Seriously, 30%?? And you think that’s a tough class??? Wow, you need to readjust your expectations, otherwise college is going to be incredibly disappointing to you….

There's no crying in baseball!

Weeder course?

’splain, please.

The best course I’ve ever had? The Pedagogy of Writing with Larry McEnerney. Of course, LRS itself was effing incredible. Larry would’ve been a hell of a mentor had I any desire to teach writing at all. Some tips for you.

Weeder course

an extremely difficult course which weeds out students not capable of undertaking more courses in the subject

When I was an undergrad, one of the popular weeder courses was the four-quarter General Biology sequence, where the first day of the first quarter would have nearly 600 students, and by the end of the fourth quarter, you’d be down to under 100, based on people failing along the way or giving up all hopes of ever being pre-med….

Weeder courses don’t give A’s to 30% of the students….

I don't believe I've had one, then.

At SSU, they didn’t believe in that kind of behavior. And at U of C, they were all like that. Except most of us stayed, because we were all sick, twisted masochists. Okay, maybe it was just me.

Okay. American Idol. Since you brought it up...

First off, I have to say that Kris is my favorite — and no, not just because he is absolutely adorable. I love that he plays guitar and piano and always comes up with awesome arrangements. I would listen to the music he would put on an album, whereas I wouldn’t listen to an album by, say, Adam. Yes, he’s talented, but it’s the same theatrical schtick every week, with the screaming and the falsetto and the musical-theatre-ness. As for the other two — I actually kind of like Allison; she’s quirky and puts on good performances and she definitely has an interesting voice. Danny… well, I am beyond sick of him. He was one of my favorites at the beginning (which, I’m sure, was the producers’ Master Plan, what with giving him all that airtime), but his performances have been mediocre — which is why it’s so frustrating that the judges can’t help but say good things about him.

Which brings me to last night’s show. I am quite scared that Kris will be going home because of how the judges skew everything toward their favorite contestants (and Kris isn’t really one of them). Based on last night’s performances, Danny should be gone. I mean, did you HEAR that scream at the end of his song? That was just ridiculously awful. Seriously.

So I’m holding out hope that Danny will finally be gone and Kris will be safe… but it’s kind of like hoping that the A’s will actually maybe someday WIN a game or two. It just hurts more when the inevitable happens.

…and now back to your regularly scheduled baseball programming, complete with a link! that opens in a new window! and is baseball-related! and not depressing because it’s not about the A’s! Hooray!

Greinke will not face the A’s next week…..

I think I like all of the remaining singers

but Danny’s song choice was bad last night. That scream was awful. I normally don’t vote but I voted for Kris last night just because of all the unwarranted things the judges said.

with the A's playing the way they are

most of my baseball excitement is Greinke related.

Click this link here for some fun Greinke facts, courtesy of Posnanski (ERA+ of 1173!! seriously!).

I need to check the White Sox schedule to see when the Royals come to town and if Greinke will be pitching then. Also, my girlfriend and I were tossing around the idea of renting a car for a weekend, driving down to KC, and catching a couple of Royals games. 1st place in the AL Central!

EPIC 2015 - Where the internet is headed

Made in 2005 (hey, the A’s were good back then!), intriguing take on the near future, including the downfall of the New York Times and the increasing popularity and ease of social networking. Concludes with Google releasing EPIC, the Evolving Personalized Information Construct. A must watch for frequent bloggers such as those on AN.

I was surprised by this (warning: baseball related!)

Out of curiosity I looked up how the A’s were faring in Runs Scored and Runs Allowed. Runs Scored is exactly as pathetic as you might expect, but they’re 2nd in the AL with 110 runs allowed (Royals are first at 108, Seattle third at 114). As much trouble as the starting pitching has been, that astounded me.

A couple thoughts:

1) Because of missed games, we’re two to four games down on most of the league. *edit – Nate also noticed that one

2) Our bullpen has pitched their hearts out. They’ve pitched 43% of the innings this year (97/226), but have only given up 30% of the total runs (33/110).

3) We’ve avoided the gigantic blowout so. Think back to the Yankees’ 22 run embarrassment. Blowouts skew the early-season data. So far our worst effort was the 7-9 loss against those same Yanks, and that took 14 innings.

4) We’ve given up more than 5 runs only 6 times, which I believe is lowest in the league. Lost every one of those game. We’re 2 for 7 in games where we’ve given up 5 runs. Thus, our current record.

But even if you go with runs/game the A’s are still third (that’s after Wednesday’s games)
