Today was the first day that I followed the A's game completely through the game thread on AN. All the while I wanted to post how our boy's we're doing on the farm, but decided to wait until the updates tonight. Let's see how our kids finished out the month of May.
| Las Vegas
Barton 1B: 2-3, R .234 That is 4 straight 2 hit games for our young lefty. Finished off May batting .288 with 13 Extra base hits.
Carson CF: 2-3, R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB Carson was drafted by the Yankees back in 2002. This is his first season with the A's.
Recker C: 1-4, 2 RBI .209 Batting close to .300 over his last 10 games. I don't know what to make of Anthony. If Galarraga is healthy, he appears to be the 3rd in line followed by Munson. Anyone know why Munson is on inactive list?
Reineke: 5 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 5 K 4.19 ERA Nice outing today. Has been pitching in relief as well as starting, and doing well in May, 2.95 ERA Drafted by the Astros in 2004--first season with the A's
Gilbert CF: 1-2, 2 BB .310
Carter 1B: 2-3, 2 R, HR, RBI .291 Finished off the month hot over his last 10 games. Followed a solid April with a much more powerful May. 10 extra base hits in April, 17 in May.
Cardenas 2B: 1-4, SO
Brown C, DH: 2-4, .333
Horton made his 16th error in 45 games. Made 20 errors last season in 117 games. Needs to get it together quickly, especially since his offense has been nice of late.
Cramer (L, 2-3): 5 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 6K 4.74 ERA.
| San Jose
Richard 2B: 0-2, 2 R, BB
Mitchell RF: 1-3, 3 R, 3B, 2 BB, SO .247 Busy day this afternoon for Jermaine. For a little review, Mitchell was drafted in the 5th Round in 2006. He tore up Vancouver at 21 with a line of .362/.460/.507 to go along with 14 SB. He did well in Kane County and then stalled pretty bad last season in Stockton and that's where he stands today. I need to remind myself of Mitchell when I get really quickly excited about
David Thomas, Dixon, Barfield, or others.
Carter 1B: 2-3, 2B, 3 RBI, BB
Keough DH: 1-4, R, HR, 4 RBI
Vitters 3B: 1-4, R, 2B .268 Struggling of late, .244 over his last 10 games.
Thomas, Dav CF: 2-4, R, 2B
Poirier: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K 4.03 ERA
| Kane County
Christian DH: 1-5, R, RBI .236 I wonder if he has been injured since he is now DHing
Coleman SS: 1-4, R, 2B, BB, 3K .290
Desme CF: 3-4, 3 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, BB, SO Busy afternoon. K rate so far of about 33% or so.
Hernandez LF: 3-5, 3 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 2 K The 22 year old has been pretty steady this season and showed more power in May. 7 XB hits in April and 16 in May.
Barfield RF: 3-5, 2 2B, SO .343 Crushed the ball the last 10 games batting .459. He's been hitting quite a few singles, the rise in doubles has been nice to see.
Haviland (W, 4-1) 6 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 3 K 2.78 ERA Walked a few guys today. If someone has Haviland's blog address, please post it.
Deal: 3 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 4 K 1.86
This is the tough part right now. The A's aren't playing well and all eyes are on the minors to see if help is eventually going to be on the way. It's tough not to get excited about some of these guys while trying to realize that we'll probably have more Mitchells.
Out of those we like to talk about--particularly those with hot starts to their career, who is going to have a more lasting impact in Oakland. It can be anyone.
I'll start--I think that Cardenas is going to come up and smack the ball all around the field. I think we have a Brian Roberts in green and gold coming soon. 40+ doubles from the 2B year in and year out. He will force weeks to switch positions in the next two years.
