What should A's fans do now?
The word frustration comes to mind for all A's fans right now. We don't have a manager that we believe in. We wonder if Beane is even watching this team or just playing soccer GM. We wonder if Wolfe cares about us A's fans anymore? It looks for certain that this will be a lost year so the team needs to make a statement. Bring up the youngsters. I can live with a team rebuilding with youngsters but not with the Crosbys and Davis clogging up the roster. The team has lost all directions and its getting plain hard to watch any games.
So how do we fans tell the A's we are mad as hell and can't take it anymore? Do we have a fire Geren night where we all just chant "Fire Geren" all game long? Do we boycott going to games until the A's show some directions? Anyone with Beane's phone number lets give him a call and get his head back into baseball because this team need some leadership in front office and dugout.

It appears that the boycott of games
has been in effect for years, so that may not get anyone’s attention. I’d favor that those who accidentally attend start a “Fire Bob Geren!” chant non-stop from innings 1 to 9. Can’t hurt. At least there would be some noise and excitement.

How much would it cost to have the scoreboard lead that chant?

Well, I know if you have a group of 25 fans you get a ticket discount
and a scoreboard mention. Since the team isn’t even drawing 25 fans / game these days, I would think a check for, say, $1,000.00 could get you “FIRE BOB GEREN!!!!!” on the scoreboard for 4-5 innings straight.

I can't help but agree with this...
It looks for certain that this will be a lost year…
“Lost year” being the key words. It’s clear that the “reloading” euphemisms of recent past were a joke. I can’t even see the “rebuilding” part anymore.
Supposedly, Beane would rather have draft picks from Holliday than what he can get in a trade. Oh great. To me that’s a setback of at least two years (or more) because he traded what were supposed to be great prospects to begin with for Holliday and we end up with the same thing only younger and farther away from reality.
I went to an Iowa Cubs game against the River Cats a couple days ago and at first I was impressed that virtually all of the starting players had spent considerable time at the major league level and they were doing well as a team in AAA. Then it hit me… we’ve put together a fantastic AAAA team, and little else.

Holliday
I am not worried about him since the A’s will still be able to trade him for prsopects sometime before trading deadline but that being said it better be for more hitters not more pitching. The A’s need a 3b, ss, and OF help for the future more than some top pitching prospect.
by Arcman on May 30, 2009 10:25 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed.
Offense (and fielding) is what’s needed. We have good hope for pitching, and may even need to sacrifice some it for a better balanced team..
I also feel that we’ve progressed beyond the “but you can trade pitching for hitting” theory.

crying. Yep, crying does help sooth the disappointment that is the oakland A’s. I’m gonna cry and then eat nachos.

I can tell you what I am gong to do...
and that’s keep tuning in. I truly love this team. Don’t let the wool get pulled over your eyes. It happened to me.
Ending last year and heading into this year a lot of us, I feel, got excited after our off-season. Holliday, Giambi, O-Cab. Yes, the latter two are older veterans, but with Holliday, we had no idea how the hell we landed him. We actually had a big name star, bringing one of our own back, and someone who we felt could play SS well, AND hit.
But we all knew deep down that this year was going to be rough, like last year. We got a somewhat false sense of a chance competing this year, and now a lot of us are pissed off when what we want doesn’t happen. When you are going to rely on a very young staff with the only “stars” being Duke, who unfortunately got hurt, and Braden, who has come into his own, you have to expect something like this.
Yes Geren is inept, and Beane seems to have become a soccer dad. But I still trust Beane. And I find it flat out wrong that Wolfe doesn’t care about the fans. I guess I just find it hard that when someone sits on something as big as a professional sports team, they’ll just stand aside and let it fail, it does them absolutely no good.
I could just be young and naive, but this is part of sports and life, sometimes you are on top of the world and all to quickly the rug gets pulled out from under you. And you have to enjoy and suffer through it all. Makes you enjoy the top of the mountain that much more.
I wholly understand that people are upset when we get sold gold and end up getting shit. But be patient, things take a while. I don’t know if any of this made sense, it was a bit of a rant, but it’s something that has been bothering me for a couple weeks now. Agree or disagree all you want, it’s just how I feel.

Still my team but....
Just want management to show they have the desire to give us a team to enjoy watching. Not fun knowing that davis, crosby, and hannahan is coming up next inning knowing there is no reason to watch a 3 up and 3 down inning. Watching some AAA pitcher look like a allstar against this lineup. I would rather see a cunningham or Dollittle strkie out than a nother strike out by Davis. Davis could atleast try to bunt to first that would be more exciting than another strike out!

I don't buy for a second that Wolfe and Beane no longer care, but...
…I do now question whether Beane is truly as good as so many people still seem to think.

2 faults for Beane
I don’t question his ability to make trades but the problems I have with Beane is hiring a friend to manage. Beane seems afraid to blame Geren but he was quicker to blame Macha and Howe. The other thing is of managing the 25 man roster. Why not place a player on the DL when injured not keeping that player for a week and handicap the team with tired players.

Gotta bring a Fire Geren chant to the ball park. I'm sure a sign will be taken down, but they
can’t stop the fans from cheering. It’s on the Bleachers to get this chant going.

A banner might not last
but how about three signs that say LET’S GO A’s when they’re carried into the park, but which by gametime say FIRE BOB GEREN on the other side?

1st amendment, baby!
But to be on the safe side, maybe a more respectful sign would be in order: “Mr. Beane, if it’s not too terribly awkward, perhaps you could find a moment in your schedule to dismiss the manager? I mean he’s a bit of a tart, isn’t he?”

I was going to take my family to Tampa this year to catch the A’s, but with them playing this horribly I don’t know if we will go. It may be time to just go into complete rebuild. Get rid of the parts that are not going to be usefull in year or so, and hang on to the others.
We will be poised for a nice draft next year; however, if we keep Holliday all season, and we finish with a horrible record. The Moneyball movie should be out in year or two. Maybe managament is really looking forward to being good then, so they can make the most of the additioal exposure. It sure wouldn’t look as bad if we at least had a decent team when the movie does come out. Not that I think that is anyway to plan your moves. I’m just saying it would reflect poorly on Beane and the franchise if we are still a losing team by then.

gnar gnar
this team has been absolutely unwatchable… how dont understand the reasoning behind any management decisions and yet i still watch religously because i pull for the players… one of the things i cant understand is why our leadoff hitter has the lowest onbase percentage of any regular on the team! where is jeremy giambi when you need him?
