Around SBN: L'Equipe Claims He's Coming To Chelsea On Five Year Deal

Open Thread: Game 22 - A's at Mariners (cont.)

The A's couldn't hold the one run lead in the 9th; they couldn't hold the 3-run lead in the 13th; we go to the 15th, running on no pitching and no hitting.

Um....let's go?

Geren probably entered the day thinking it would be best to rest the bullpen. However circumstances have changed and he needs to re-evaluate. Is he going to rest the bullpen if it goes 17-18 innings? No.. so why do it now when we had a chance at a victory?

I understand your point but that plan may have worked for a 9-inning game.

Urban: Hold on. That cougar in the corner is TOTALLY checking me out. Should I send her a mimosa? Do I slip the wedding ring off and hope she doesn't see the tan line, or is she old enough to not care?

If you can't scrape out 2/3 of an inning out of 3 or 4 relievers left in your pen

you’ve completely mis-managed your entire season. That’s what happened in the 13th.

I got this:

Although Kell owns the American League record for most at-bats in a game without a hit, he does not hold the major league record. On May 1, 1920, in a 26-inning marathon between the Brooklyn Robins and the Boston Braves, Braves’ second-baseman Charlie Pick went 0-11. The game, which ended in a 1-1 tie, was the longest game in baseball history.

Definitely not Hannahan.

Still love that guy.

If i had one pitcher on the A's I wouldn't trust to pitch with the bases loaded...

it would be Eveland

What about Barry?
"Barry who?" Forst said, and I felt like I was in the middle of a knock-knock joke.

GAME OVER as soon as Eveland was warming up.

Hilarious

Rajai actually drifted back on the ball … friggin hilarious.

This team as it is

Has no chance.

Billy Beane you are overfuckinghyped

by Trainman on May 3, 2009 6:16 PM PDT reply actions

it ain't Billy

Beane assumes, rightly, that any idiot should be able to manage a baseball game. Unfortunately, in Geren he’s found a manager who goes out of his way to make horrible decisions.

by Benjamin Light on May 3, 2009 6:17 PM PDT up reply actions

This is why ESPN ignores us. That was total crap…

yet again.......

bob geren set us up to lose……..
so what if dan geise is not avaiable he can be replaced…….
why leave some one in there has thrown more pitches than the starter………………….

by Wreckonized on May 3, 2009 6:16 PM PDT reply actions

Are we trying to lose?!?

This easily should have been a three game sweep.

Ugh, lousy jump indeed

The good news is...

Eveland probably won’t be starting on Wednesday.

Losing this team would be a huge failure for this city and an affront to Oakland’s great sports legacy.

by skigurl on May 3, 2009 6:17 PM PDT reply actions

that's it (good one)

That will be Geren’s ray of optimism!

The silver lining...

I think we now qualify for a government bailout.

by tmac on May 3, 2009 6:19 PM PDT reply actions

Geren might be losing games, but it's Matt Holliday who's hurting the team the most

Believe it or not, this squad wouldn’t be winning that many more games without Geren. The team just isn’t that good and there are a dozen of players who should be blamed just as much as Geren, including Holliday.

The one saving grace of the season, it looks like, will be the haul the A’s get for Holliday. But add today’s 0-7 performance to the horrible start he’s gotten off to, and as of right now, you’re not getting much for his rental.

It’s only the first week of May, but the Holliday move has been total fail.

who the hell puts a signature above their screen name???

by ANti-dentite on May 3, 2009 6:20 PM PDT reply actions

yes

but geren is the manager he is the one setting us up to lose with the lame batting order,
wrong decisions during the game with pitchers
and bunting when the guy cant even bend his knees ( landon powell)

by Wreckonized on May 3, 2009 6:22 PM PDT up reply actions

Geren

How frustrating! Why in the world was Gio allowed to pitch the 13th? I really believe that Geren needs to be fired.

FIRE GEREN

If he would have let Wuertz, or even Bailey pitch in the 9th or 13th the A’s win. He let Gio throw more pitches out of the pen than he would let a starter throw.

by BIGa's on May 3, 2009 6:24 PM PDT reply actions

Amazing fact

Gio’s been up 1 day and throws more pitches than gallagher in 2 weeks.
