There was a lot of baseball yesterday, so I'll skip the small talk and get right to it...some of this has been written up in yesterday's post as well. 

Sacramento:

Cunningham CF: 0-2, BB, SO, SB

Mazzaro P: 0-2, 2 SO Sadly, Mazzaro is not the another right handed bat we can plug into the lineup. Not really sure why he had to hit, Simmons didn't hit in game 2. 

Barton 1B: 1-2, R, HR, RBI, BB, SO .211

Mazzaro (W, 2-2) 6 IP, 4 H, R, 0 ER, BB, 6 K 2.38 ERA This was highlighted yesterday, only threw 80 pitches and has been awesome as of late. Over his last 4 starts, 27.2 IP, 9 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 21 K. I'll take that. He's made 5 appearances in May and has a 1.65 ERA this month.

Game 2

Barton 1B: 0-2, BB

Baisley 3B: 2-3

Simmons (L, 2-2) 5 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, BB, 2 K  5.32 ERA. This was a nice outing for James. Looking at his numbers, and this has been discussed before, the K:BB ration appears to be the thing holding him up right now. 31:21 in 44IP this season. I can live with the hits, he's only given up 3 HR on the season, it's the BBs that are killing him. 

Hampson: 1 IP, 1 K. The A's must have just signed this lefty. First inning of relief for us. Has some decent numbers in his past. Justin

Midland:

Gilbert LF: 2-5, R, 3B, SO, SB (13) .309

Horton SS: 2-5, R, HR, 4 RBI Just his 2nd bomb of the season. Nice outing last night

Carter 1B: 1-4, BB, SO

Cardenas 2B: 2-2, 2 R, 3 BB .402 I know there are some that say we rushed him to AAA--I am not one of those. He can't do any more in AA. He needs to see guys with better breaking balls and command of their fastballs in AAA. If he struggles, that's fine, hitting .400 in AA for another month just doesn't make sense to me. All those that liked the Blanton trade, raise your hand

Brown, C CF: 2-5, 2B, RBI, .339 Yea, no strike-outs. 19 of his 38 hits this season have been for extra bases. That is pretty awesome.  

Valdez, A 3B: 1-4, R, HR, 2 RBI, BB, SO

Ortiz C: 2-5, 2 R, 2 SO, 2 SB .375 Back-up catcher, born in '85, from the Dominican Republic. That's all I know about him. Spent last season in the Arizona League and had 86 ABs. Gabriel

Godfrey (W, 4-3) 6.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 11 K 3.86 ERA. Has turned his bad April around and had a really nice May. 2.94 ERA in 6 GS. 

Banacka: 2 IP, 3 K The only thing that is keeping him in AA is his command. 14 BB in 27.2 IP needs to improve. Tonight was a good start 
Stockton:

Weeks 2B: 1-6, R, 2 RBI, 2 K  I feel like we've been waiting weeks for him to show himself. Hahah, had to. Let's see what he can do. 

Vitters 3B: 1-5, 2 R, BB, 3 K

Padron, R 1B: 3-4, 2 R, RBI, BB, SO

Smith M DH: 2-4, 2 R, 2B, RBI, BB Born in '86, was drafted in '07 out of Texas Tech. 

Keough LF: 3-4, R, 2 RBI Born in '86, drafted in '05 out of Yavapai College. His profile says that his mother is on the TV show "The Real Housewives of Orange County" Have we mentioned that on this site before? 

Martinez, F SS: 2-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI .221 This is Frank's second year at SS with the Ports. At .221, he might be leaving soon with Coleman racking in Kane County.

Ross: 4 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 3 K His last three starts have been better, although not getting far in the game. 12 IP, 3 ER, 2 BB, 13K

Espinal got his 4th save for the Ports since being brought up

We didn't hit well, 14 Ks tonight for the Cougars. 

Figueroa (L, 4-2) 5 IP, 5 H, ER, 2 BB, 5 K 4.98 ERA. 

So, we saw the arrival of Weeks, Mazzaro dominated again, Cardenas is doing his best Ted Williams impression, Corey continues to rake the ball in Center for Midland, and Ross is starting to pick it up. Until to tomorrow, take care.
