Troy Glaus
I just read he might be out for the whole season, and that he will be a free agent.
Do you think if we can't find a third baseman in a trade that the team should give him a 1 year contract? He is injury prone, but he is about average defensively and a great batter, and he probably won't be getting much money after losing the whole season.
He can be the perfect stop gap, while we keep looking.
what do you think guys?

The A's need a younger and healthier player
for 3B. They no doubt will need to give up quite a bit to get one, but that’s partly a result of not really deasling with this need earlier.

I hate seeing stuff like this over and over
which 3B do you think Beane passed on earlier? And what reason is there for a 3b being more expensive now in the past?

Exactley
Third basemen have never really been cheap. That’s why we signed Chavez to that huge contract when he was looking like Longoria looks now.

Oh my goodness,
Chavez looked like a he was gonna be a good player for a long time, but he never, never, ever, “looked like Longoria looks now.” Not even close.
I needed a team so I wouldn’t turn into one of the eighty million pink hat-wearing Bud Light-drinking mulleted idiots at Fenway.

Depends on the seriousness of the injury, depends on the size of the contract.
But definitely worth a shot if both of those factors are favorable. Why don’t we talk about this when we know more about what we’re dealing with?

I like it
depending on the price. Hell, stick him at 1B or Dh

If we keep doing thiis we can cluster 7 guys around 1B... kind of like a 'Gang of Tom Brokaws'.

But how many of them hit right handed with good power?
a ground rule double followed by three unproductive outs, sounds like my sex life - dayzd toe

Sounds good
And we can also go pick up Pedro and Mulder and we’ll easily take the ’01 World Series.

Takes Nomar/Giambi's spot
This could be a real no-brainer if these guys don’t pick it up or get healthy. Even if not, I’d still like to have him.

Seriously though, sounds good
However, unlike this offseason, I’d really like to have a plan B not named Hannahan ready to go in case the shoulder flares up again. I’d also image that if Glaus recovers and makes it back at all this season, he can go into free agency at age 32 and command a far heftier price than the A’s could afford. It’s more likely he’d wind up wearing orange and black across the bay than don the green and gold.

I would take him for a 2 year 5 million deal
but my guess he is thick headed and will hold out for more money and end up being injured again…This next offseason is really going to be interesting seeing how much guys will get. Holliday and Bay might not get what they want.

I was intrigued by Glaus
until I discovered his injury is to his throwing shoulder – not good for a 3B, and sounds a bit too much like Chavy.
I’d really like to have Gordon: he’d be under club control for three years – his peak years at that – thus giving the A’s ample time to draft and develop a couple 3B of their own. I kinda doubt the Royals will go for it though.

Why should we keep taking "undervalued" guys?
It’s time to just sign a solid player or a dog with no fleas.
These ain't your father's A's.

No kidding
One of the lessons that Beane and Moneyball has tought the rest of the league is to look closer at what they’re discarding. Those left are now quite often “undervalued” for a reason.

One former Juicer on the A's is enough
I guess 2 (that we know of) if you count the unknowing Cust

there's plenty more than that i'm sure
i wish this mentality would just go away. it’s really not as big a deal as the media makes it.
/topic since i don’t feel like arguing it again

what happened to Freese and Allen Craig on the Cards?
Something probably happened because I haven’t seen them around lately, but they were intriguing trade targets before the season…

Freese was injured in a car accident, is recovering
Craig keeps getting older, is old for his league, rakes at home but not so much on the road, and isn’t a great fielder.

Maybe we stay away from guys who are injury prone?
(Although this Nomar signing is the exception. )
But seriously, the team has had more than its share of injuries over the last 3 years
as we all know. Do you really want this guy??

I guess Buck has been getting pregame work at 3B & 1B
Buck at 3rd, if he could actually play a decent 3B would work for me come next season.

If he learns to consistently hit major league pitching

That means he'd consistently have to play.

This seems like a lame experiment to me
Buck has a record number of consecutive errorless games in the OF, but has struggled to hit consistently or stay healthy consistently. Moving him to a less familiar defensive position will help how?
