It was a strike and Cust was right to take it because he wasn’t going to hit it – just a great pitch. :-(

Nico
how can he be “right” to take it when the go ahead run is on 2B and there are 2 outs? It was a horrible Ab by Cust
Because it was a ball.
That’s why you don’t swing at it.
"I’m Joey Devine, I’m what Joba Chamberlain would be if he was good and nobody had ever heard of him."
Because you don't know as a 97MPH pitch is coming in
whether it’s exactly on the corner or exactly just off the corner, but you know it’s unhittable. One of the things that makes Cust successful is he’ll walk on that half the time where most guys will get out 95% of the time. Because it was an unhittable pitch.
I like Cindi. A. She never pretends to know more than she does. B. She has unbridled enthusiasm for her "Hotties," and isn't afraid to show it. -IM4Oakgal

He was completely right to watch it, and I give the benefit of the doubt to Cust a hell of a lot more than I will to an umpire who hasn’t been consistent at all

I don't care---
sometimes you have to take a chance
That's dumb.
9 times out of 10 the catcher doesn’t drop the ball and Crosby is out.
That’s not taking a chance, that’s making a dumb move.
"I’m Joey Devine, I’m what Joba Chamberlain would be if he was good and nobody had ever heard of him."

That’s a reason to send a guy who isn’t a fast runner on a ball hit pretty much directly to one of the best throwing outfielders possibly ever?
"I’m Joey Devine, I’m what Joba Chamberlain would be if he was good and nobody had ever heard of him."

The A’s have run themselves into enough outs as it is without doing it more and more.

He should have been out by a mile. Ichiro throws 150 ft. seeds. My 8-yr old listens to base coaching better than that. That being said, way to steal a run, dumbass!
If Crosby ran through a stop sign that's not exactly Gallego's fault, is it?
Last of the Ninth - Photography Site / jamesvenes.com - Blog
It was the right call.
1. Running on Ichiro is stupid
2. The ball beat him there by 20 feet
"I’m Joey Devine, I’m what Joba Chamberlain would be if he was good and nobody had ever heard of him."
of course you are right
but check out the “Cincinnati Kid”— “the wrong move at the right time.”
This isn't little league.
In the bigs, that play is made 99% of the time.
I’m glad he dropped it, but it was a stupid thing to ignore Gallego and run through the stop sign.
"I’m Joey Devine, I’m what Joba Chamberlain would be if he was good and nobody had ever heard of him."
I think Gallego made the right call.

Last of the Ninth - Photography Site / jamesvenes.com - Blog
Yeah, that's stupid.
Even if we’re generous and say there’s a 20% chance Crosby is safe there, the next hitter is better than a .200 hitter, so it’s still more likely that a base hit/wild pitch/error brings the run in.
It was a fucking stupid move and it was lucky. There’s no real way to defend it, but I’m glad it worked.
"I’m Joey Devine, I’m what Joba Chamberlain would be if he was good and nobody had ever heard of him."
get over myself?
someone o this fucking team shows some fire and daring and there is something wrong with me? Seriously? It wasn’t by the book but in case you haven’t noticed, we were 8-12.
Teams that lose kinda do stupid stuff a lot.
That was a stupid thing to do.
"I’m Joey Devine, I’m what Joba Chamberlain would be if he was good and nobody had ever heard of him."
"get some god damn balls," huh?
It was a stupid play he was fortunate to score on. Glad it got them a win but it doesn’t change the fact he was out by a mile if the throw’s good. Then it would have really stood out as a terrible play by Crosby. It was still a bad one but it worked this time.
There’s showing fire and there’s playing smart. That wasn’t smart.
Last of the Ninth - Photography Site / jamesvenes.com - Blog
I guess we are just going to have to agree to disagree on this one
But sometimes in sports when a team is listless and without life, it takes putting pressure on the other team to make a play for things to begin turning around. That’s not being stupid in my book. It is taking a chance. And taking chances are not always bad.. Obviously.
I'm glad it worked
I’d be really pissed off if the throw was good and he was out.
Last of the Ninth - Photography Site / jamesvenes.com - Blog
fair enough
I would have appreciated the chance having been taken, and disappointed it didn’t work. But obviously we don’t see eye to eye on this. I also appreciate that
it is possible to think WAY too much in sports, you know that?
And while you were crunching your numbers, Crosby won us the game. What does your calculator say about that?
Why so testy?
EVA enjoys taking low-probability gambles that work out. To each his own. Why are people so determined to deny him that joy?
"Go ahead and overachieve, you scrappy Brett-Favre-colored walk-takers." —Rev Halofan
Right now it's saying that you're an idiot.
So i guess my calculator deserves a CGV.
"I’m Joey Devine, I’m what Joba Chamberlain would be if he was good and nobody had ever heard of him."
Well
I’m glad we’re all enjoying this win properly.
Not directed at you mikev.
I'm here to talk about the past.
I'm heading out to the hot tub.
Plenty of enjoying gonna happen.
Hope I don’t get my calculator wet
"I’m Joey Devine, I’m what Joba Chamberlain would be if he was good and nobody had ever heard of him."
Ban this nutjob
I’m so tired of negativity and stupid jibes btw stats and non-stats. Start banning and maybe people will shut up and stop trying to attack everyone.
"Their batters are patient to the point that it's annoying." -Ryan Franklin
Now I'm totally confused
I deserve to be banned for sharing my opinion? For saying “get some balls”? Didn’t know that would be so offensive but I certainly apologize to anyone I offended. Right now I’m the only one being attacked as far as I can tell. You all certainly have the right to disagree with me. Fair enough. But I’m not sure where the outright vitriol is coming from. We all root for the same team, correct?
I wouldn't support a ban for this
It’s just a difference of opinion.

I just want to say
that I recognize that I was somewhat aggressive in some of the verbiage I used in stating my opinion (partly that was due to my being revved up over Crosby getting us the lead, partly it is due to my inherent nature to express strong opinions about things). i had zero intention of attacking anyone personally and if anything I wrote was taken as such I truly do apologize. I’m not what one would call a regular to this site, and so maybe that in and of itself should be reason to tone down my brashness. But I really was just trying to state an opinion. Take it (and me) however you will
(And I think people know I state my opinions pretty strongly, right or wrong)
He scored so we can all be happy about that in the end since it was key to them winning.

Love that forearm shiver Crosby threw down on Johnson
On that note, Johnson should be a professional catcher on that play.
I just remembered I love Eric Chavez.
Yeah he nailed him...

BoCros is in da house! I’m going to stop giving Bobby so much crap. The guy is on a mission. He’s trying out there and that was a gutsy play. I’m all for him playing instead of Chavez for the rest of the year. At least this guy isn’t a pansy like Chavvy is.
if he hadn't dropped the throw, he'd have been out by 5 ft.
Don't believe in yourself.
Believe in Me who believes in You.
The thing that shocked ME the most
was that Crosby somehow stayed in one piece after that.
I mean, this is Bobby Bones of Glass Crosby we’re talking about

It's the new Crosby.
Playing SS made him fragile. Playing other positions makes him strong.

Absolutely
Also great for Cahill to get a confidence booster, and for Bailey to continue to rack up W’s.
He'd better be starting tomorrow at 2B
