Dodged a bullet - nice job.
Just a note: The big mistake, IMO, in that inning was not pitching Crawford away. Single to left = 1st and 2nd, single to right = 1st and 3rd. In that situation, you pitch him away and try to overpower him.

No,

They do something funny there that they don’t do at the Trop.
The Trop is an extremely strange place. Up until the success of last year, it seemed more like a baseball mausoleum than anything.

Win or lose, this is a great game.
Games like this is my answer to those guys who argue we may as well blow up the team if we can’t “contend” this year. No matter what the W-L record at the end of the year, a great game is a great game.
"Go ahead and overachieve, you scrappy Brett-Favre-colored walk-takers." —Rev Halofan
To be fair
I’d hope that we don’t dump Outman, Bailey, or Wuertz in the blowing up process – they are all positives for us this year.
Yes.
Lots of excitement. Suspense right up to the end. Good performance by Outman. Excellent drama in the Bailey inning.
For me, that’s a good game.

It's the right decision
Two chances for your 2 best hitters to drive a run home now. Just gotta get it done.
We don't have a best hitter
And you guys, sometimes, are too hard on Geren. It’s easy to predict his moves to fail since we always fail, but it isn’t ALWAYS the managers fault.
Now let’s go Jack.
Even in a year like this,
Suzuki’s ISO is only .141. Not good odds that even if he got a hit, it’d be more than a single.

You have to look at the big picture
The two guys who have bunted are two of the highest average hitters on the team. They have bunted to set things up for Crosby, Cunningham, Cust (not a high average hitter), Holliday, and Giambi. The first two are bad hitters and the last three drive guys home from first as well as from second.

So when a bat breaks, is it always due to a good pitch, or
is it sometimes just a defective bat? Cunningham looked like he squared that one up is why I ask.
I heard on the radio this morning that the A's have given up 47 runs in their 4 losses?
what changed tonight? I realize the offense is the same as usual.

Springer is not terrible.
He’s playing poorly, but it was a good signing and he should play better as the season progresses. He’s actually striking out more than he normally does, but is doing pretty much everything else much worse. Maybe he hasn’t adjusted to the AL but I have to believe his BABIP will come down from .348 and some of the HRs will turn into flyouts. His track record is too good to believe he won’t do better.
I hope you are right but I have no confidence in him.
Seems like our new Embree throwing from the other side.

Go back to the almost certain 3 run homer than Sweeney took away in Texas
and work back from there and you will See Springer is pitching like Dana Eveland from the right side.
I don't know about that.
Yeah, his BABIP is high, higher than he’s used to, but his FIP (which doesn’t have any effects from BABIP at all) is almost two runs higher than his ERA. Plus, his xFIP (FIP with a normalized home run rate) is a tad higher than his regular FIP. He’s actually doing better than average with respect to HRs and flyouts.
He might be doing better than average.
But he’s not doing better than HIS average. He’s producing a higher percentage of fly balls than in previous years and more of those fly balls are being hit for home runs.
He’s playing uncharacteristically bad and I expect him to improve. The only thing that worries me is that the velocity on his pitches is down, but it’s not a significant decrease and he’s not having trouble striking hitters out. Anyway, I don’t think he’s a terrible pitcher, I just think he’s pitching pretty terrible so far.
It's OK, he's just making it interesting.
We’ll still win. That’s why we got the four insurance runs.
