Starting lineups for 5/18 game
It's been interesting following Marty Lurie's and Ken Korach's comments on the A's woes. Both are pointing specifically to the problem of having too many inexperienced starters at the same time. Marty also mentioned an over-reliance on good luck not only regarding the rotation but also counting on good health from too many players with health issues. He didn't mention names, but of course we've been mentioning them all over the place.
Looks like the Rays have a DH today!
Thanks to Joe Stiglich for posting the starting lineups:
Today’s A’s lineup: Cabrera SS; Suzuki C; Cust DH; Holliday LF; Giambi 1B; Kennedy 2B; Sweeney CF; Crosby 3B; Buck RF; Gallagher P.

isnt the real issue
that cabrera, holliday, giambi not performing to expectations, having to play Crosby at power spots, and not getting much also from CF? basically everyone in the lineup besides Cust and Suzuki? I thought i read somewhere that the pitching has been pretty good.
that and they…just seem to have accepted losing…..

they also pointed out that traditionally pitchers start the season
ahead of the hitters, but that the hitters have caught up by around the sixth week of the season. They point out that the fact that the starters aren’t going deep enough into games will wear down the bullpen, plus having too many rookies and not enough veterans in the rotation will show itself even more once the hitters start catching up.

Why not just call up Ricky Henderson – I’m sure he would be an upgrade for us with his AARP retirement discount care.
Another Disappointing Start by Gallagher
I don’t know what happened to the guy. He showed some serious potential last year. I remember he struck out Jeter and A-Rod in the same inning … now, he has no control. On a related note, Harden (who was traded for Gallagher) isn’t off to a great start with the Cubbies this year.
