Duke to come back as a starter?
SuSlu reporting that Duke has remained adamant about starting instead of relieving--and that's what he'll be doing. There was talk earlier this year that keeping him healthy and in the bullpen might be the safest for his heath, but that will not be the case.
Duke comes off the DL on June 4th.

go for broke
Duke can help by starting, not coming out of the BP. 4/5 of our starters are crap; what is the point of stashing Duke in the BP if we are down in the latter innings most of the time? It’s not like we will have a lead that Duke can help us hold on to. If he comes out of the BP, he’s gonna be pitching a lot of garbage innings.

Duke helps us only when he's healthy
So I support him in whatever position he can stay healthy.
PS Your points don’t really make sense.

I think that
batterbatter’s point is supposed to be similar to what OaklandSi says below. The A’s have a much greater need right now for starting pitching than an additional bullpen arm.
As far as what position will keep him healthy, well Duke has been frequently injured as a reliever and frequently injured as a starter. So who knows?

4/5 of our starters are crap??
Huh?
I’ll grant you that Eveland was crap, and Gallagher has been crap.
But Cahill has now surrendered all of 4ERS in the last 19 IP, Anderson pre-blister had two very good starts out of 3 appearances; and Outman’s ERA is under 5. And Braden is obviously not crap.
So the more accurate statement is that 4/5 of our starters are NOT crap.

Cahill's been getting extremely lucky.
And Anderson has gotten hit hard a couple of times. They’re not the best, but they’re not bad right now.

he's needed more as a starter
(and I’m sure that he’s also thinking of his impending free agency). But of course this all depends on whether he can stay healthy and go deep into ballgames.
He’s eligible to comeoff the DL on June 4, but that doesn’t mean he will come off the DL on that exact day.

I was for putting Duke in the pen
to preserve his health, but that was before Outman was in the starting rotation. If Duke wants to start and can stay healthy then he’ll be a huge boost for our rotation. His wants match our needs as long as he’s healthy.
