An easy way to get CSN-CA for college students
From Slusser's notes today was this interesting tidbit about the TV woes of many so far this season:
We have been getting some questions from viewers who have Comcast but are not getting the game on Comcast Channel 89. Fans must have a DTA box to receive the games. They can not go directly from the cable in the wall to the TV. The DTA boxes are FREE of charge with no additional monthly fee. Fans can get up to two with remote controls for each home. They simply call 1-800 COMCAST and ask for a DTA Box to receive the A' s games. They will be delivered to their homes for free or subscribers can pick them up at their local Comcast Store location.
I called my Dad back home to tell him this and he rushed down to the Comcast Store in our town and sure enough he got 2 free DTA boxes for our house. He asked the agent at the store if I could get one for my college dorm and she said that it should work the same as at home as long as my college has a Comcast account. I called the store in my college town to see if this was true and he said he needed to check the account info. and would get back to me, which is where I'm at now and I'm starting to suspect that the call won't be coming but I'll update as this continues.
I know that many people have expressed frustration at not being able to watch the games, myself included, and have even resorted to possible illegal options in order to get our A's fix. Hopefully this will help everyone, I'm hoping it helps me.
Update: After talking to the aforementioned guy and a subsequent agent over the phone they told me that I needed to get housing varification from my RA and I should be able to go down to the local Comcast store and pick up a DTA box. The agent over the phone told me that it's tricky for students to get the box since we're not the names on the account but that if I can get some sort of verification I should be able to get around this issue. Hope this works for you guys as well.

If I may ask, what college?
I’m at UCD and with blackout rules, I figured I’m pretty much stuck until June to see a game on tv. Any reason for me to get hopes up or no?

I go to Sonoma State
As long as your school has Comcast you should be able to get one of these DTA boxes, and thus A’s games.

No clue
You’d have to check with Comcast on that one. Guess that’s what you get for going to Oregon :-)

I'm so pissed off
Its the biggest bs ever. I go to Cal and I can’t watch an A’s game. I can’t get this DTA box because our dorm uses dish network or some crap. My slingbox isn’t working. I LIVE IN THE CITY OF BERKELEY AND CAN NOT WATCH AN A’S GAME!!!

Can’t stop a Chip Kelly-led offense.
I just remembered I love Eric Chavez.

But of course
even Chip Kelly can’t magically invent an experienced offensive line.

The young'uns filling in on the OL this season...
… have game experience. I’m alright with that. The D line is a bigger question, but I still think this team can go places.

GO SC. it’ll look bad when we lose to throws a dart at the dartboard Arizona State, but otherwise, we’ll cruise? or something like that.

It really does
I recommend contacting whatever cable provider you have and seeing if there is a solution available because a third of the season w/out A’s games is not acceptable.

You can build on this!
If you are on the Southside, Blake’s receives DirecTV and get the games. I’m sure they’d put it on if it was not already.
If you are on the Northside, LaVal’s should do the same.

Is DTA the same as a digital cable box?
I have digital cable at my house, and tried bringing a box into my room (to see if it would be worth it to get another box), and it doesn’t work. My thought is that it’s because I’m running the cable from my siblings’ room, through the hallway, and into my room (no cable outlet – we rent).
If it works (and it’s free) I’ll be much happier with Comcast than I am now. It irks me that I can watch all the Giants games on CSNBA but can’t watch an A’s game to save my life. If this DTA box thingy fixes that, I’m all for it.

I am in the same position
So I did some research on these DTA boxes and it probably won’t work at my school at least. Even if I managed to get a box, you still have to call Comcast to activate the box using the ID tag. Since my school’s cable is handled centrally, Comcast won’t have my particular dorm# on file and would have no way to activate it.
Man this really sucks, I may just have to slingbox it.
