AN Community Service Day - part 2
The link from the Newman Center group are here.
This is the collection of photos from the Rebuilding Together Oakland group...
(photos from the cameras of gigglingone and Lynnzgal)
Some of the group was working indoors, tearing down the walls of the living room of the house:
batgirl, Pam5981, and Lynnzgal's son start working on ripping down the walls...
And then there was the plumbing:
On top of the shed:
Wes7 and a hammer.
Nico and his wench:
We did a lot of work on the living room:
Pam5981 and Lynnzgal taking a break for the cameras:
The whole gang:
(I would try to name everyone, but I know I would miss at least a few, so I'll let you all name yourself....)
Thanks to Pam 5981 and Nico for setting this all up, and to LongTimeFan for getting the tickets arranged! And thanks to everyone who participated in both of the projects for getting out there and doing some service in the community!!

Could you move all the photos after the first...
…so they don’t all show up on the frontpage, please?

I think I just did.
Either that or I deleted all the photos. Or authorized an invasion of Guam.

Good job.

"hard-working dogs"?
I am not hard-working, and demand you take that back.
Woof.

These are great photos, "Gigs"
Until I saw them, I didn’t realize how hard I worked. A hammer and a wench wrench. And still nothing got screwed.

I don't think you even worked that hard...
I don’t have any pictures of you with a hammer…..

Oh yeah, that's not me
Keep in mind that I rarely see myself, so it’s hard for me to remember what I look like.

That was a solid hammer
It made my work ridiculously easy. But then, you can probably see that in the expression on my face. Of course, the pair of gloves helped a lot as well. :-)
Nice pictures, Jenny. Thanks so much for taking them.

tasty, but you were kind of a grouch about it….

Most men aren't that grouchy
when a woman is “trying” their banana. Nice to learn new facts about the people here on AN.

Heh, thanks, Marquez
It randomly popped into my head when I was walking out of the coliseum BART station a couple of years ago. (Actually, I think it was when I was heading to AN Day IV. But that’s neither here nor there.) I like to trot it out for Buck’s first AB of any game I’m at. My voice never quite gets all the way through it, but I keep trying.
And forgive me, Madame Who Giggles, I don’t know what happened there. Some of the fumes from the drywall must have passed from my lungs to my brain. Either that or was I just so focused on trying to get you to say something snarky about the gloves that I let my guard down with the other parts of the comment. I’ll let you decide.

I can't believe most of you went to the game after that
I had to wash my hair twice when I got home I had so much plaster in it!
That was really fun—can’t wait to do it again :)

comments of this variety: “I need a shower in the worse way”.
My usually baby-soft hands were feeling pretty rough (hey, I work at a computer all day).

Nice lathe and plaster
Were they planning to keep the rounded ceiling parts too? Those are a real classy bit that they don’t do in modern buildings anymore. But a pain to redo.
by MobiusKlein on Apr 6, 2009 10:37 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Yes, and yes
Most of the lath was in great shape. They were planning to replace the rotted-out parts and keep the rest. And they were planning to keep the curved ceiling. There were some very sweet features in this old house, which has great bones but too much neglect for too many years. It was fun to do a little part in bringing it back to life. And you should’ve seen the sparkly green naugahyde couch! I thought we could use it in our “AN Lounge.” Sorry I didn’t get a picture of it.
Losing this team would be a huge failure for this city and an affront to Oakland’s great sports legacy.
