Fanfest
I just got home from the A's open workout or fanfest. It started off well. When you walk through the gates they assign you an autograph section. I was section one. Santiago Casilla was the first person assigned there. I was disappointed not to bash Casilla who was extremely nice and is a great player but I didn't want a middle relievers autograph although I am happy with it. But I was the last person to have something signed by Santiago before Buck took over. Buck is one of the A's i really wanted to meet but oh well.
Then I was able to check out the press boxes. Wow they are plain and boring. Only "The Bill King Room" had anything on the wall. Just plain white depressing walls. After that it was time for Batting Practice. DAAAMMMMNNNN did Giambi kill the ball. I was able to bare hand catch a homer from him in right field. Unfortunatley a few hacks later a line drive over the wall hit a young boy in the face. He looked to be about 3-4 years old. I t hit him under his eye and you could actually see the stitching from the ball engraved on his face. But the man who caught the ball gave it to the boy and I saw him after BP and thankfully he seemed alright.

It sounds as if you had a nice day.
I am glad that you enjoyed yourself. Was there any player that you noticed that seemed to go out of their way when giving autographs or talking to the fans? Just curious.
Holliday, Sweeney
gave a lot of autographs. Also Brad Ziegler signed a lot, even after the rest of the team left the field at the end. I thought Orlando Cabrera was very personable. He responded to the fans when they called him, often pointing or waving at them and threw a lot of balls to people during the workout.

See? I like to know that kind of stuff about the players.
Gossip and all…hehe. No really, it makes me like those players even more when they show they are grateful for the fans.
Ya what he said and also blevins
Was really nice but Dallas tried to kick a ball up to the rf wall but he just looked like a total douche
poor boy
and congrats on that bare catch !
yeah that work out was kinda not as fun as regular FAN FEST.
but hey atleast i got to see suzuki. that was pretty exciting. such a nice guy. he was very approachable so it was worth the 300 mile round trip. lol.
Giambi did hit well,
but Holliday was truly impressive to me. Wow! His homerun balls were shots! But Custy hit the window. lol

Workout day not fanfest!
This was a workout day not a fanfest. I have been to all but 1 fan fest going back to 1998. This was glorified batting practice. I got a photo with Gellego and the trophies, Giambi picture and signed poster all for free and very short wait. I had some ribs for lunch, yum. Been to 300 games but never tried the BBQ ribs for some reason. Other than that horrible, horrible. Q&A didn’t take questions from the audience. That’s the main purpose for Q&A. Real questions with real answers. This year it was just a regular TV interview. For years Q&A was an insight into the players personality. The press box “tour” was disapppointing. Where was the clubhouse and dugout tour? Where were the jump houses for kids? Where were the arts and crafts? Where were the community booths? Where was anything? I hope the season is this lame.
