AN Community Service Day 1
The photos below are from AN Community Service Day 1, by the contingent who assisted setting up Newman Center's monthly meal. A much larger group helped out at a Rebuilding Together Oakland work site -- they can send me their pics for inclusion or develop another fanpost. We all then met at the Coliseum and sat together in seats donated by the A's. Thanks A's!
Many thanks as well to Nico, LongTimeFan and Pam5981 for setting this event in motion.
Father Nico blesses the coffee...
... and works on his four-seam wrapped-brownie grip.
The DogMa and EnglishMajor hatch a plot.
EnglishMajor cuts the mustard.
She's got a bit o' The Captain in her ...
... as does The Dogfather.
Shots from the game ... We know what 67Marquez didn't give up for Lent.
The A's won, the ice plant's in bloom, spring is in the air and Spring Training is Finally Over -- it was a good day.

Wish I could have been there!
Looks like fun for a great cause. Thanks for sharing!
If ever a game should have been called on account of wind, that one was it. Good thing Jerry Blevins didn't have to pitch; he's tall, skinny, and I could practically see one of the 40-mph gusts...sweeping him off the bump and pinning him to the left-field fence. --Mychael Urban
I'm so glad you took a picture with the ice plant
I noticed how pretty it looked, as I slogged from the BART bridge around to Will Call.
I learned that I would not make a good recipient of free food….I’d be the one coming back in line asking if I could get a plain cheese sandwich without the premixed “slather” (one part mustard to five parts mayo) and maybe run under the broiler for thirty seconds. Also, I learned that sliced packaged ham is quite difficult to separate into individual slices when you’re wearing rubbed gloves.
Thanks. A’s and LTFan for the ticket! Thanks, Nico and all who made the volunteering possible!
Humiliating
to be in those food lines. My son has been there. he has taught me how important those meals are. Thank you so much for going to make the sandwiches today. I don’t think I could have done that.
I helped cut the brownies
And by “cut” I mean “eat” … well, maybe a little of both.

Do I EVER open my f&%#$ing eyes????????
I hate cameras, and vice-versa.

I've always thought you looked nice,
and I’ve never met you. So there’s that.
Of course, I’m certifiable.

You like fine
for someone who was not feeling well but valiantly showed up anyway. I love the pic of you blessing the coffee. Pleased to meet you today.
I don't especially mean that I look horrifically ugly in person,
just that the camera always seems to catch me looking like I’m whacked out on methodone. Wait…
It was great to meet you too – hope to see you again soon, maybe at Chez Nico, Sat. May 2nd? We’ll be cooking dead animals on the grill around 4pm and then watching the A’s at Seattle at 6:10pm.

Glad I did not realise
that I was in the pix you took at the game. I might have been self conscious. Thanks for loading the pix promptly. My son was pleased to see the company I was keeping – the new people I was meeting – and to see that I was having so much fun.
I seem irritated by fly balls

I feel the same way
You know, if people would only get their flies fixed, there wouldn’t be so many stray, unloved flies roaming around our cities.
"And Julio Franco is batting right-handed!" -- Wayne Hagin, A's radio play-by-play, mid-80s
I dare not go there
since I don’t know that much about the bodies of flies. But i could look it up at the library.
Hang on...Let me google...

First they said
“Post more comments, no need to lurk, let us know you’re there.”
Then they said
“Not another off topic weirdo encouraging Nico.”
"They" don't know what "they're" talking about
My weirdness is not your problem. Except for maybe 3 hours or so today.

That works well, too,
but you end up at those meetings with me if you go to that well too many times.

Or you end up
in that sandwich line.
The JD was not why my son was there.
It is 10 p.m. and it’s “goodnight, sleep well” to all.
This looked like a lot of fun...and a great cause too.

I love that you guys did this!!!
This was a really great cause…thank you so much for doing that!

A few of mine
My wife Poppy (on the right) and her sister after a long morning of clearing thorny shrubs:
The crew working inside. It was a little dusty:
Nico, who showed up at 10:30, mispronounced “vegan”, and did absolutely nothing except eat bagels and drink orange juice:
Finally, Brett Anderson warming up!

I'll get the rest of mine online later this weekend, but here's the group shot...

You guys had a nice turnout.
Just a personal comment to DogFather…
You and your wife look like such a nice couple. Beautiful to see.
Strictly "keeping up appearances"
I caught them brawling off-camera on the way to the parking lot.

Maybe that accounts for it? Anyway, she’s my much better/nicer 99%.

And you don't even have to wrap it!
P.S. I’d like to be able to say “hi” Opening Night, so e-mail me your whereabouts, and I’ll try to stumble my way over.
I'm here to talk about the past.
A friend of my daughter's bought the tics and has them...
I’ll ask her to contact him and ask him my seat number. I’ll email you when I find out. I would love to meet the AN historian. :-)
I dropped my season tickets in a pot of coffee,
and now I just have a bunch of nervous tics.
