Open Thread: Game 14 - A's at Yankees (cont)

Ziegler and Outman have kept the A's in the game, as we move on to the twelfth inning. The A's have wasted chances all over the board in the late innings; looking for ONE BIG HIT.

Game tied 7-7.

(Don’t read too much into that)
But just as well. This team deserves the long plane ride home after this one.

Except that at this point Beane appears to be part of the problem,

considering that the construction of the roster makes little sense.

I like Cindi. A. She never pretends to know more than she does. B. She has unbridled enthusiasm for her "Hotties," and isn't afraid to show it. -IM4Oakgal

Agreed

Beane is part of the problem

He scolds Gallagher and then leaves him on the roster to waste a spot.

He has a moron for a manager and has players on the team who belong in SIngle A

by Trainman on Apr 22, 2009 3:12 PM PDT up reply actions

This is a bad team as it is constructed

Very bad.

Loss after loss after loss.

They are a bunch of losers with the worst manager in the world.

WPA-cap

hitting: -54.4%, pitching +4.4%
keep in mind, +50% is necessary for victory… so our hitting lost the game a bit more than once.

geren has made 2 huge mistakes in my view...

1.) pinch hitting buck last night vs rivera. left against a cutter. duh. bad idea.

2.) running giese out for a third inning of work when there are guys in pen fully rested and a day off tomorrow. that’s just inexcusable.

Well that was fun

Heck of start to the season huh? The A’s need bench players who can stay healthy if their going to have Chavez on the team. Nomar should retire and Crosby should be cut.

What needs to happen for starters

1) Send Gallagher down

2) Cut Giese

3) DFA Rajai

4) Move Cust to 2nd

5) DFA Crosby

6) Fire Geren

by Trainman on Apr 22, 2009 3:15 PM PDT reply actions

Cust hitting second

I should have said Move Cust to second in lineup

by Trainman on Apr 22, 2009 3:17 PM PDT up reply actions

I think that comes along with DFA Rajai.

Holliday/Sweeney/Buck outfield.
Giambi 1B
Cust DH

When Giambi is pissing and whining from having to stand in the field too much, sit him the fuck down and let Nomar or Powell play 1B, since apparently Powell isn’t going to catch at all and Suzuki is going to be dead in 8 months.

DFA Rajai?

Why? Nice value to play defense late and pinch run…..I dont see any issue with him as your 5th OF.

You want to cut and DFA all these guys…who the hell would you like to have instead?

Rajai is a fine bench player.

by Rebuilding Season on Apr 22, 2009 3:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Except he's not the 5th outfielder.

He should never start.

He should really never get to hit.

He can’t run the bases well.

He’s just fast. That’s it. He doesn’t have much of an arm. There’s basically ZERO reason to have him playing at all when Travis Buck is on the team.

Rajai Davis is just not good enough at baseball to justify taking up a ML roster space.

And a very similar player in Dave Roberts.

That's not exactly support in Rajai's favor...

"We were s--, pathetic," Guillen growled early in spring training. "We hit too many home runs."

by lenscrafters on Apr 22, 2009 3:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Just me I guess.....

But I really like having that type of guy as the last guy on my bench….With so many slow guys on the team, I like that he can be used late in close games to run for them and I like him patrolling CF. I think Rajai is the least of our concerns..maybe his role needs to be a tad more defined and not starting, but I like him a lot as a weapon as the 25th dude.

Bring back Hammer.

I feel very similar to July of last season

When we were in the midst of that awful 10+ game losing streak. At least back then though I knew it was coming since we had sold off Harden, Blanton, etc. Right now I’m supposed to be optimistic, but it just isn’t there.

Why is Nomar not playing?

Bobby Crosby is a waste.

And even more, the A’s have yet to win without Nomar in the lineup.

He should have at least PH or DH.

How much more time does Geren get here? This is his 3rd season and the last 3 guys who held this job all had sucess while Geren has done nothing but lose. He seems like a nice guy but maybe that’s not what this team needs.
