DLD 4/20/2009-860 AM updates?
Prompted by this from our Sacramento based brethren, I was wondering if anyone had any updates on the 860 AM situation?
This past Friday I drove to Windsor. On the way, between my longing for the next morning and a number 7 at Omlette Express I paid super close attention to the radio broadcast in my car.
I was pleasantly surprised, I left my office in Sunnyvale at about 4:00, stopped off quickly at my house to pick up some things in Pleasanton. From there I took 580 all the way to San Rafeal with no interruptions in service.
Sometime between passing the Grand Lake Theater and Skywalker Ranch I became distraught as I realized my GOG picks were completely stupid.
But much to my surprise I was able to listen all the way up through Santa Rosa without losing the game.
Has anyone noticed any changes or is this typical? This was my first such drive of the season and, with my in laws living up in the Country of Wine, I imagine I am going to be testing this a few more times.
Speaking of San Rafeal... it's 4/20.
Some discussion about San Jose.
Who else has something to dump?

Leads off with Adrian Cardenas
Adrian Cardenas, 2B, Athletics (Double-A Midland)
The big bat acquired from Philadelphia last year in the Joe Blanton deal, Cardenas entered the year with a career batting average of .299, a full .001 below expectations, as one scout had classified him as “the kind of player who seems like he could hit .300 in his sleep.” He’s doing much more than that early in the new season, going 3-for-4 with a home run on Friday, adding two hits (both doubles) on Saturday, and wrapping up the weekend with three hits, including a triple, to complete an 8-for-14 weekend that brought his average up to .405 over the first ten games of the year. With Mark Ellis signed through 2010 with a club option for ‘11, it’s hard to figure out where he fits into Oakland’s future at his more natural position of second base, but the A’s have time to figure those kinds of things out… and a massively talented system is going to create a number of similarly difficult decisions over the next few years.

Believe in Me who believes in You.
how is it hard to figure out
Ellis will go into spring training as 2B designee. Cardenas in AAA. if things change they change.
Cardenas could be ready for 2010 though
Slow Development could be AA for 2009, and AAA for 2010.
But a bit faster would be AA for first half of 2009, AAA for second half of 2009, then September Callup.
After all, Cardenas did have stays in Low A, High A and Double A last year, right?

Regarding 860AM,
the signal pretty much “is what it is” at this point. I got the CCrane antenna and it helps a bit but not as much as I would ideally have hoped.
I asked KTRB if they would snych the delay to the CSNCA telecast’s delay so that people watching could still listen to the radio broadcast, and they were very responsive – the delays have been synched since the day I asked. So props to KTRB for that! But my signal in Berkeley (which is in a “null” area where the signal is even weaker than usual) is poor.

Strange..
On a recent trip from the South Bay to the North Bay, 860AM was fine until the Fairfield / Vacaville area. Then it started cutting out on me.

From SuSlu:
Outfielder Travis Buck didn’t play in the series as the A’s faced three consecutive left-handers, but he said he took grounders at third base Saturday and is ready to play anywhere.
Um, Trav, you know I love you, but I really, really don’t want to see you at third base. Eeesh.
I thought Buck had decent #s/obp vs. lefties?

"I’m Joey Devine, I’m what Joba Chamberlain would be if he was good and nobody had ever heard of him."
Hmmmmm
This disturbs me beyond the simple idea of Travis playing 3rd. The A’s have several options that would seem to be better fits, both at the major league and AAA levels. I suppose it could mean that they just want to get his bat into the lineup somehow, but something about this is unsettling to me re: Chavvy’s health.
I just remembered I love Eric Chavez.
Joe Posnanski wants us to email him when we're infuriated or baffled by Geren
This will likely cut us down to one thread per game.
…I would love for you to email me here when you see your own manager make a move that infuriates you or impresses you or utterly baffles you, something that you think went unnoticed.
Go Sharks!
Your game thread comment made me laugh out loud. Several times. Kudos.
If ever a game should have been called on account of wind, that one was it. Good thing Jerry Blevins didn't have to pitch; he's tall, skinny, and I could practically see one of the 40-mph gusts...sweeping him off the bump and pinning him to the left-field fence. --Mychael Urban

OMG!
San Diego is the ONLY place were I would actually be OK if he was traded there! I am probably the only here who feels this way, but I don’t want him traded at all. But if he has to be traded, at least he will be traded to my other team!

Someone asked earlier how much money had been raised on Opening Night for the OPD officers' families....
$130,000 is the answer. And the link has address information if you want to add to the total….

Wtaching that just sent chills down my spine
That was easily the most amazing moment I have ever experienced at the ballyard… The chants of “OPD” were also very heartening.
Yeah, I didn't get a chance to see it.
Because I switched over to the Nick Adenhart tribute. I gotta say that was a very beautiful tribute.
That is a pretty awesome interview
though a little too much discussion about Clemens’ testicles for my taste.
Sounds like Roger had a ball

KTRB signal was very good
driving up toward Calistoga from Oakland (although Napa has an A’s affiliate radio station that comes in nicely in the area)
but last night the reception in my apt (I live near Lake Merritt) was full of static…weird…
