(Not sure if this link will work as I've presented it -- I'm new at this)
This is the latest statement from the A's Ken Pries about the status of negotiations between CSN-CA, DirecTV and Dish Network. Hopefully everyone within reach is watching the A's/Giants right now (although not in HD, unfortunately), and it looks more promising than ever that things will be resolved by the end of this weekend.

Oh...Wasn't That Intentional?
I thought it was part of the post so we A’s fans could revel in the irony that the beginning of the season has become!

Now that WOULD be ironic
No, I had nothing to do with the ad.
Losing this team would be a huge failure for this city and an affront to Oakland’s great sports legacy.

I just realized that CSN Ca is not CSN BA...
And I’m totally left out.
Being from Reno, we used to be pretty much covered for most of the A’s games by CSN and the KAME affiliate. I didn’t even realize the distinction between the two channels when the deal was announced, and now realize that it’s going to be pretty much impossible to see a game this year. I’m just stuck with the Giants on CSN BA now, which is a scary proposition.
I know it doesn’t directly pertain to this topic, but it seems like whatever TV deal happens, someone’s always going to be left out.

And I now realize this has all been said now...
By Soaker and others. Sorry for the multiple posts about it, as it just feels like my gut has been slugged repeatedly by a Giants fan.

Do you have DirecTV?
And do you subscribe to EI? If so, there are ways around the blackouts, assuming of course DirecTV does in fact end up carrying the CSN Ca channel.

He must have Charter Cable
There are several areas on the fringes of A’s territory that are served by Charter, and Charter does not appear to carry CSN California on any of its systems. The matter may be complicated by the fact that Charter Communications filed bankruptcy last week. I’d find out who the regional managers are at Charter and start writing letters letting them know that you want the channel added.
When I moved up here I already knew about the possibility that DirecTV might not be carrying the A’s games for at least a while, but I checked out Charter’s service and it was so inferior compared to what I had with Comcast in Oakland that I signed up with DirecTV and am just keeping my fingers crossed about the game telecasts.

Good to know, thanks for the local insight.
It looks like I would have to get a pretty expensive package with DirecTV to even get CSN Ca, however, which is still disappointing. The fact that it goes from unavailable to cost-prohibitive doesn’t do much to alleviate the feeling of being left out.
I guess I’ll try and contact some sore tof general manager, like you mentioned, but don’t have much faith that they’ll listen with the bankruptcy going on.

I have DirecTV
I’m in Monterey and I watched the A’s/Giants game last night on CSN CA (ch. 698). But, it was blacked out for me on MLB Network, which listed the game as on?
Anyway, I hope I keep getting all the games on CSNCA. I don’t really want to buy Extra Innings too.

Would Extra Innings help though?
If you’re in the TV zone of the local station, local TV blacked out or not, isn’t Extra Innings blacked out?

Yes.
If you’re still in a team’s territory, you’re still blacked out.
With DirecTV you should be able to also buy the local sports package, and that should get you unblacked out, but it’s an extra $12/mo. That’s what I’ve done in the past.
I could prove God statistically. Take the human body alone - the chances that all the functions of an individual would just happen is a statistical monstrosity.

Actually that's not the problem.
Directv appears to have added channel 698 to the basic packages. What is at issue is that DTV is going to black the games out if Comcast and DTV can’t come to an arrangement on the price DTV pays comcast to air the games. So even if you pay for the expanded premium package (which you don’t have to) and you get channel 698, you wouldn’t be able to see the A’s. It’s really all in DTV and Comcast’s hands now.

Watched the game on MLBN last night
here in Phoenix. They kept running a thing on the bottom of the screen during the game that said it would be blacked out in the bay area. MLBN just showed the CSNCA feed with Glenn Kuiper and Ray Fosse anyways, so I watched the same broadcast you did.

Only bad thing about CSNCA
is that you have to have a box to pick up the channel. I no longer can watch the game with just regular plug in cable down in the kitchen. And a box costs $7 dollars a month. Sort of silly they couldn’t work out that tiny detail and get on a 1-70 or so channel. Oh well, more games on TV is still better and more HD is way better. Just have to listen to radio downstairs and watch upstairs. :)
