The latest from Slusser is that Chavvy felt well enough in batting practice yesterday, and fielding grounders and doing batting practice today, to start today's game and play third base. Nomar, however, is still bothered by his calf so will not play. If he were to be put on the DL the 15 days would have to start yesterday (Saturday 4/18), since he did play in Friday's game. I wonder how long Geren will go this week with effectively only 24 players on the roster?
Giambi will DH today and Landon Powell will start at first base. I suppose he could shift to catcher should for some reason Suzuki not be able to play the full game (jinx!!)
So – although the starting lineup hasn't been posted yet – this most likely means that Crosby is not starting, Cust is in right field, and Buck is not starting.
UPDATE: Joe Stiglich has some additional information. He notes that not having Nomar's RH bat available has impacted the A's this weekend, and will likely do the same in NY, as they will see both Sabathia and Pettite. He also has today's lineup:
A’s lineup: Sweeney CF; Cabrera SS; Giambi DH; Holliday LF; Cust RF; Chavez 3B; Suzuki C; Ellis 2B; Powell 1B; Braden P
