GOG 2009 #04

We are now nine games into the season and the A's are beginning to show some familiar patterns. Young pitchers throwing surprisingly well… check. Chavvy missing games… check. Pathetic lack of power and frustrating at-bats with RISP… check. But, just in case you were going to stop watching games and assume that it all plays out like in your spreadsheet, let me remind you that there have been some baseball surprises in 2009.

Star-divide

One of those surprises is the Toronto Blue Jays team. While last year's team had a decidedly below average offense (not as bad as Oakland, of course), the Blue Jays have been hitting like crazy so far this year. I mean, Marco Scutaro has as many home runs as Jack Cust so far!

This offensive outburst has the Blue Jays sitting in first place of an AL East division that most people figured was going to be a three-way race between the Yankees, Rays, and Red Sox. So, are the Blue Jays legit? Will Halladay (who we don't have to face! yay!) and the rest of the pitching pick the team up when the offense inevitably slows? Or is this just an early season, small sample blip, with the hopes of Blue Jay fans destined to come crashing down (perhaps starting with a drubbing at the hands of our lovable muppets)?

Results

Everyone was pretty well bunched on this one, with none of the astounding scores that we saw for the Red Sox series. Athletics fan and runner earns the dubious distinction of achieving the absolute minimum score possible on this GOG, 5 points below zero!

Overall scoring statistics

question 6

I actually meant “how many total outs are recorded while Outman is pitching” (i.e. his IP times 3). But maybe I got a little too clever while wording the question. I’ll kick you some points if he does indeed record 3 strikeouts
