DLD 4/14: So LB doesn't turn zombie & eat our disobedient monkey brains
Dustin Pedroia's hood pass has been revoked. Apparently some people from Woodland think he sucks and want to kill his family.
This is the stupidest and scariest thing since that Lindsay Lohan zombie photo that was posted in last nights game thread.
There is a serial something or other in Chicago.
Facebook is evil. But makes for funny stories.
The A's should hire people to shoot t-shirts into the crowd. I haven't sued anyone in a while and I am looking for an excuse.
More proof that Gabe Kapler sucks and Swisher need to come home.
Lastly, and sadly, the Grim Reaper has been spending too much time at the ball park this April. Here, here, and here.
Dump away.

Ewww. . . He's enjoying himself. What an A-Hole!
Is he the only guy from a crappy suburb to hate it? Woodland is a crappy suburb of a second-class city. What is there to like about Woodland?
It’s not like Woodland even provided a solitary reason as to why Woodland does not suck. It just sounds like Woodland was trying to hitch their wagon to the most relevant person to come out of that hole in the history of forever (apologies to Tony Torcado) and he got sick of playing along.
Most pathetic quote:
March 2008 by the City Council. Schools across the city praised him, holding him up as an example to children that if Dustin can make it, any of them could.
That’s kind of completely untrue to the extent that it’s illogical, dishonest and false. In fact . . .
“Everyone wants to get out of there. You don’t want to stay in Woodland. What do you want to stay in Woodland for? The place sucks.”
It sounds like, if anything, wanting to get out of Woodland provided him with another incentive to make it in professional baseball.

"I truly believe ESPN only cares about promoting the Red Sox and Yankees and Mets – and nobody else," said the closer, a former Met. "That’s why I like the MLB Network, because they promote everybody. I’m really turned off by ESPN and ‘Baseball Tonight.’ When Jake Peavy threw 8 1/3 innings on Saturday, they showed one pitch in the third inning and that was it. It’s all about the Red Sox, Yankees and Mets."

We should put together a team based on awesome quotes and things done this year. So far:
RP: Julián Tavárez – Beer Goggles quote
RP: Heath Bell – F ESPN quote
RP/OF/1B: Nick Swisher – K-ing Gabe Kapler, asking for ball, throwing ball into dug out. Pretty much slapping Gabe in the face & rubbing it in.
Also:
Matt Kemp’s remarks to Manny Ramirez just after he showed up to Spring Training.
Manny: You’re late. I was here at 6:30.
Kemp: I was here 3 weeks ago.
I just remembered I love Eric Chavez.

RP: Julián Tavárez – Beer Goggles quote

OF: Matt Kemp – Putting Manny in his place
RP/OF/1B: Nick Swisher – K-ing Gabe Kapler, asking for ball, throwing ball into dug out. Pretty much slapping Gabe in the face & rubbing it in.
I think Kemp just owned Manny.

Direct TV...
I did not know where to post this, so I thought I would post it in the DLD…my problem is that I have not been able to watch ONE GAME yet!!! I have direct tv and they are blacking out the sac network the A’s are on.
I thought they had resolved this problem with Comcast. Am I wrong? Does anyone have the status on this yet?
Thanks!
Are they blacking out channel 698? That is CSN-BA where the games are being brodcasted on DirecTV.
Not sure if that is the channel for Sac, but it is down here.
A's games on 698 not blocked for me out of the Bay Area...
All of them have been on here.

Eureka is stranger than I was led to, or you’d, believe
Let's Go Oakland! clap clap clapclapcl-- damn, I think I sprained my wrist...
Here's my best guess:
CSN and DirecTV still don’t have a permanent agreement for DirecTV to carry the A’s games. They’re limping along with some kind of temporary agreement. If/when DirecTV commits to carry all the A’s games, then anyone within the A’s MLB television territory should get the games as a local channel on 698.
Meanwhile, DirecTV has made CSN California 698 a local channel for much of Northern California (and at least part of Nevada, since that’s where I am) regardless of the status of the A’s telecasts. But this territory does not correspond to the A’s full broadcast territory. We’ve heard from people in outlying portions of the territory such as Eureka and Eugene that they’re not getting the channel yet.
I know it’s frustrating, but all I can do is advise patience. The most recent news I saw on this was that the situation should be resolved one way or the other by about the end of the month. Everyone who has DirecTV who lives in A’s television territory should either get the games on 698 as a local channel or will be totally effed.
Thanks Soaker!!!
I appreciate the feedback.
I do feel the need to let all of you at AN know that if we don’t get our A’s telecasts up here in Humboldt County WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!
I live in Sac, and have Dish Network, and have been able to see all the games. When
the Kings are on, they have preference to the main CSNCA station, but the A’s are always on a different one.

GOG scores
I posted this already in GoA’s weekend DLD, but people might have missed it there.
Anyway, the scores are up for GOG 02 (series vs Mariners). Angry Sean is the winner. micdog2001 (winner from the series @ LAA) still holds the lead in total points.
Awesome - 7 whole points
Here’s hoping I continue to suck with GOG 03 – I picked the Sux to win the series 2-1.

No. He should have been tossed.
Throwing at a guy’s fucking head like that is inexcusable.
"I’m Joey Devine, I’m what Joba Chamberlain would be if he was good and nobody had ever heard of him."
That sounds bad
I didn’t see it, I just thought I heard he stayed in. Saying to me that the umpires didn’t think much of it.
But yeah, throwing at a guy no matter where in my opinion is grounds for the boot.
well, there's throwing at a guy to brush him back
and then there’s firing a 95mph fastball over his head on purpose WHILE TIMEOUT HAD BEEN CALLED AND GIVEN.
"I’m Joey Devine, I’m what Joba Chamberlain would be if he was good and nobody had ever heard of him."
Just starting, after sitting and doing nothing for 12 seconds.
Regardless, remember last season in SF when Huston Street was midway through his delivery when the sprinklers came on?
It’s not that hard to not throw a ball.
"I’m Joey Devine, I’m what Joba Chamberlain would be if he was good and nobody had ever heard of him."
It Is
Depending on when in the pitcher’s movement they realize time has been called. It’s really bad for you to stop your motion suddenly mid-movement. Every coach I’ve played for tells pitchers to just throw the pitch even after time’s been called.
Keep the context

If the A’s get in a situation like the Yankees did last night and need to save the bullpen, what position player do you call on to pitch an inning? Who do you think would be best? Who do you most want to see pitch?

Thanks for Swisher link, Man I really appreciate the A's announcers,
Because the Yankee’s ones are complete douchbags.
How can you not find humor in Swish pitching- not to mention getting out of the inning w/out giving up a run.
Reason #4,679 not to like the Yankees…

That club has to be the least fun franchise, from the clubhouse all the way up to the announcer’s booth, in all of sports.
It bears reposting: Further evidence that the Yankees are actually emotionless fun-hating robots.

I agree
watching that video – I know they were getting killed, but Swisher seemed like the only guy out there having a good time.

It’s not a banner day (totally intended) here at the old sign shop.
But it is nice to see that you’re dumping on your own. Can I haz win versus Red Sox tonight?

update
from SF Chron’s John Shea:
Third baseman Eric Chavez’s surgically repaired shoulder was tender enough that the A’s sent him for an MRI on Tuesday, and Chavez reported the exam showed little more than tendinitis.
“The shoulder is still structurally fine. Everything looks intact, and that’s really good news,” said Chavez, who hopes to return to the lineup by Saturday or Sunday. “They’re going to sneak away as many games as they can right now, try to calm me down.”

yeah, I saw that when it first went up
Looks like someone has removed it, which is good. It was incredibly inappropriate….it wasn’t just that it was the guy’s address, it was actually the parent’s address, and he was advocating taking it out on them. That’s just wrong. I’m glad to see that they took it down, and I still don’t like Rev Halofan…
There's no crying in baseball!
Blez, FIRE REV. HALOFAN.
No joke.
Not because he has been obnoxious all these years, but because this kind of behavior, especially from a moderator, is a huge stain on SB Nation. These kind of antics wouldn’t be tolerated from any member of AN, and while I realize Halo’s Heaven has different rules and standards of conduct, this kind of behavior is horrible.
This site has seen many long discussions over the banning of certain members. But very few of the members banned here have gone this far—I don’t recall anyone advocating the offline harrasment of people at their homes. And remember, he was not advocating the harrassment of the person who allegedly killed Adenhart (which would still be inexcusable), but the accused person’s parents!
Yes, that post was taken down. But that doesn’t really change the fact that he should never have posted such stuff in the first place.
He’s a loose cannon, an embarassment to SB Nation, and a horrible example for his online community.
Fire him, Blez. He shouldn’t be a moderator.
