On Fox Ruining My Saturday Afternoon
Men, women and most importantly children of A's nation: I am enraged.
Hey Skinny! Whoa. How many beers have you had? Like 4?
I had to start early. Fox's fault.
Wh- what happened? You should get some Visine.
So I wake up. Grab my shower. Throw down on some Eggos... your usual Saturday stuff. It's 1pm and time to relax on the couch and watch some baseball! I have MLB Extra Innings, so I am sure to find something. I flip over to a channel with today's tv schedule and notice that there are no games before 7pmEST. Distinctly remembering that the A's game started at 4 today, I began to cry. This lasted for five to seven minutes.
There's no crying in baseball!
You are right. I am ashamed.
So what next?
Well. I logged on to the MLB Extra Innings website to see if I could diagnose this problem. When reading through the FAQ, I noticed this little ditty:
<!--StartFragment-->
FOX Network Saturdays The FOX Television Network has an exclusive national broadcast window for all MLB games on certain Saturdays up until 7:00pm ET. No telecast can be made available for out-of-market distribution during this time and will not be part of MLB EXTRA INNINGS. The only games available during this time will be on FOX. Please see local listings for games available during these times. Any games available for the package that start after 7:00pm ET on Saturdays will be part of MLB EXTRA INNINGS.

... wow. Gutted. So my entire reason for waking up today is now squashed. And further, there is NO baseball for me to watch until 7pm. My head asplode.
Dude you need to take some action. Preferably something childish or irrational.
Hey that's exactly what I did! I went over to Fox Sports with the intention of shooting an angry email off to one of their suits... but I couldn't find an email address anywhere. So instead, Ken Rosenthal felt my wrath.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ken. Hi there. This email is not really intended for you, but I can't find a generic questions/comments address anywhere on this site.
Anyhow. This afternoon I flipped over to MLB Extra Innings, of which I am a new subscriber, to catch some 1:00 games to wet me down for today's A's game at 4p. I noticed oddly that there were no games available until 7pm, meaning not only was I getting gypped out of all of the 1:00 games, but that most importantly I wasn't going to be able to see my A's. I then learned from the MLB Extra Innings FAQ that Fox has monopolized the baseball tv broadcast market up until 7pm on Saturdays.
To that point, I'd like to deliver a big "fuck you" to Fox Sports. Fuck you right in the pants. This service (EI) is not cheap to have and is one of very few options in which to view my A's since I live on the east coast.
So after all that I decide that I'll just flip it over to Fox and watch whatever game they decided to show except it turns out THEY'RE NOT EVEN SHOWING A GAME. So you monopolize the broadcast on all the games and don't even show a game! What. The. Fuck. Is. Wrong. With. You. Fox?
I've still got nothing against you, Ken. Keep on keepin' on. But if you could forward this along to the person that should have received it in the first place or let me know whom I can personally contact, I'd appreciate it.

Well, that's not so bad I guess. I hope you hear back from them.
Me, too. I should at least get an apologetic Easter basket or something. I need to move to California.

Fanpost Formatting Issues?
2 Q’s that I couldn’t seem to address – Hopefully you laides and gents can help me out and I’ll correct:
1) My formatting doesn’t show up in my browser. The ‘audience’ voice above should be bold and italicized, and I’ve done so in the editing – but I’m seeing it as regular text in this post. Firefox/IE kids – what’s it look like to you? You should see at least some bold/italicized text.
2) What’s up with that fragment stuff in my quote block?
He was drunk and exhausted, but he was critically acclaimed and respected.
It's probably easier just to use the tagging tools built into the interface
than using your own HTML. Just highlight the text would want to bold or italicize with your cursor and click the “B” or “I” button. Use the quote symbol for your excerpt.

Unfortunately I was using those tools
It may have something to do with Safari, which I shouldn’t be using in the first place. Just switched over to firefox and will edit this thing after I finish this game of The Show.

ha! playin the show?
life can’t be TOO bad if you’re playin the show.
Don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up!!
Fox's Blackout rules are absolute BS.
I blame MLB for even letting them buy the rights.
"Their Triple-A rotation, led by Trevor Cahill and Brett Anderson, could be better than some big-league rotations; Michael Ynoa is the best Latin American prospect of the decade; 2008 draftees Jemile Weeks and Rashun Dixon bring much-needed tools to an advanced group of hitters." - BaseballProspectus.com
Yeah, it's total bullshit.
Well, at least we get the radio broadcast with Ken & The Crew.

Who the hell is Fox to ruin my Sat by telling
me what games I can and Cant watch. Makes me soo mad. They black out ALL the games and only show one. Makes sense. But I still blame MLB for selling them the rights.

Quoted for truth.

This is the media equivalent of taking your kickball and going home.

Seriously
All I wanted to do was watch the A’s on my computer, and here I’m forced to watch the Red Sox and Angels on TV.
RagingHarden: Yeah if you get 20 starts out of me I'll be shocked. Like, I'll wreck my drawers.
But you people don;t understand...
exclusive contracts and blackouts are GOOD for the fans. They’re a win-win. Bud says so himself.
For the slow among us who are also Giants fans, that was sarcasm.
I could prove God statistically. Take the human body alone - the chances that all the functions of an individual would just happen is a statistical monstrosity.

Visiting from McCovey Chronicles to say...
how many ^#%$($ times can the Yankees and Red Sucks play in one season? I remember three Saturdays last season where that was the only game on. I don’t want to waste the time to figure it out, but I bet the Yanks/Angles (2 games) and Yanks/Mets (2 games) were all televised on the Saturdays on which they happened.
I have basically learned to not bother with Fox because I don’t want to watch either of those teams or the Angles (who MLB seems to demand that I love because I live within California).
What part of sales do they not understand? I’d be willing to pay more for ExInn if it ran around the Fox blackout. Or just give Fox the exclusive for the game they want (i.e. if the A’s were playing the Yankees or Sox you’d have to listen to the Fox bums instead of Fosse and Co., but at least you could see the game). I’ll listen to the Giants (or A’s, for that matter) gladly before I watch the 400th Yankee/Sux game in a season.
Finally, parents like to take children to ballgames. Many parents cannot go to weeknight games, and often don’t want to keep their kids up late. Kids will, someday, grow up to be losers posting on websites about your poorly-marketed product and your best and most interested customers. And their parents would like to buy them a lot of diabetes-causing food and overpriced novelties. But they can’t do any of that if the home team schedules all or nearly all its Saturday games at night to avoid the Yankees-Sux blackouts. You could argue that I am a big baseball fan in part of the joys and fears involved in the annual trips to A’s games, which always occurred on Saturdays because that was the only time we could make the round trip in a day.
Finally, if people are willing to pay for the privilege of looking at a grainy window on a laptop to watch their favorite team, why the $#@@ would you black THAT out in favor of a telecast of a ballgame from three time zones away?
It’s one thing for the NFL to black out games because they think that attendance is affected by televising the home game (I don’t like it and think it’s shortsighted, but at least it’s based on a rational premise). To stop me from watching the Giants or A’s or #&^$@ Rays if I want because Fox is cramming Red Sux nation down the throats of the rest of the nation is…. well, not good.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who hates these stupid Sat. blackouts and the highly misleading marketing done regarding ExInn. Burying a blurb five screens beneath all the trumpeting of scheduled games (note that they list all the Sat. games on the broadcast schedule even though all will be blacked out) is not exactly adequate disclosure, IMO.
Anyway, peace out and go Cust!
Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti. "I treat Timmy differently from most pitchers: I leave him alone."
The best example of how dumb this is
can be seen in Vegas. Simply go into any sports book on a Sunday afternoon during football season. Then go into the same sports book on a Saturday afternoon during baseball season.
It is insane how dumb MLB is here! How the hell can you be in a place that has nothing, but people from different areas of the country, legal gambling on sports, 500 TVs, and only have 1 freaking baseball game on!?!?!

Dont blame FOX
Blame MLB for taking the money. Little over a billion dollars in cash taken by them.
