When is CSN-CA being added to DirecTv's basic package?

Or is it happening at all? Because CSN-California is still not part of the basic package like CSN-Bay Area and KICU are. It'll be a shame if DirecTv customers have to stop watching A's games because the A's don't get this fixed (or that we end up paying ridiculous monthy fees on top of the standard charges that Giants fans don't have to pay). It's getting awful close to opening day for this to not have a resolution yet.

No updates to that so far aside from Comcast saying they’re still negotiating and are making things available.

Speaking of CSNCA

I still can’t get the channel on my Slingbox. Anyone know why?

Because the TV the slingbox is connected to doesn't have it?

So they did come to a decision?

If they did that’s great news. It opens back up the A’s and SJ Earthquakes to the bay area DTV subscribers like me who aren’t or can’t pay the extra coin.

oops...3/4 was when CSNCA is on Comcast

Sorry for the erroneous information. I don’t know when CSNCA will be added to DirecTV, if ever. They are supposedly in negotiations.

Will this affect DirecTV MLB Extra Innings?

Does anyone know if comcast will have a free 24-hour replay of the A's games as exists for the Warriors and Giants?

I think they're putting them all on On Demand

Though I don’t remember why I think that….

I already get Comcast SportsNet California, so does that mean that I’m good?

What service do you use?

And if you use Directv do you have more than just the basic package?

But yes if you already get CSN-CA then you’re good.

by athletics68 on Mar 5, 2009 4:09 PM PST up reply actions

I believe I have more than the basic package. I get all of the FSN channels, but I can’t watch live games unless it’s college.

Sounds like you have the sports pack.

I have it and I get all of the regional sports channels.

their website says channel 698

but it doesn’t say if that requires a special package or not….

I'm probably Astound's only subscriber,

but I sent them an email:

I’m a long-time Astound (previously RCN) subscriber. I’m also an Oakland A’s fan. This season, 147 Oakland A’s games will be carried exclusively by Comcast SportsNet California (not CSN Bay Area). Astound does not seem to carry CSN California on the SF Peninsula. I’m a bigger A’s fan than I am an Astound fan. Convince me and other Bay Area A’s fans to stay with you instead of switching to Comcast or satellite within the next month.

(I was tempted to add “Go!” at the end, but I refrained.)

Here’s the reply:

Astound will be adding Comcast Sports Net California by the 25th of
March. We have not made the decision as to where the channel will be
located, but it will be on in time to view A’s games. Please check our
website for additional updates as the date comes closer. Thank you.

I might switch to Comcast anyway for other reasons, but it’s nice to know I don’t have to do it this month.

...then Pennington takes over.

I've bet you've gotten a big head

being Astound’s only subscriber. FYI- You are responsible for employment of 11-50 people based on their profile I found on the Internet. That’s impressive.

I use Astound as well

And love it. Dirt cheap cable internet that drops in like a bomb.

Although I don’t use their cable package- for that I have DirecTV. I was actually thinking about getting rid of it and swapping to Astound cable service if DTV doesn’t carry the A’s on basic.

What don’t you like about their TV service?

by Tim J on Mar 5, 2009 8:59 PM PST up reply actions

Well, no MLB network...

Although I like that they’ve got NFL network as part of their expanded basic (I think), which I don’t think Comcast has. I think NFL and MLB are both part of an extra sports package with Comcast, but I could be wrong.

I was really happy with RCN for over ten years (phone, internet, cable). But since RCN became Astound a couple of years ago, there’s been this weird occasional pixelly thing happening with the digital cable, and the transmission freezes altogether sometimes for a few seconds.

...then Pennington takes over.

but as of yet, still no CSNCA in Albany

I had heard channel 89

But I’m not 100% positive on that. I’m pretty sure that’s what Comcast announced, but I might be thinking of a different cable service.

by OkayJay81 on Mar 6, 2009 9:12 AM PST up reply actions

Sweet!!

Seeing this made me think to check my tv and it is in fact on channel 89 and working right now. The Gary Radnich show is on and talking about T.O. snore. I demand all A’s all the time!

Just called Directv for the 3rd time in 2 weeks

The operator said negotiations are at a stand still and “it doesn’t look like Directv will be carrying A’s games on CSN California.” Furthermore he added the only chance of seeing the A’s on Directv is to hope another market is showing the A’s against their team.

Bad news for A’s fans / Directv subscribers. Subscribing to the Extra Innings package makes no difference. Yuck, Comcast cable here I come.

by HRH on Mar 6, 2009 2:44 PM PST reply actions

Like your post last week

We need as many Directv subscribers as possible to plead their case to get this resolved.
Could you imagine 3 or 4 nights in a row of Hudler announcing or 3 or 4 nights of “Hawk & DJ”.

by HRH on Mar 6, 2009 3:15 PM PST up reply actions

And that DTV rep obviously doensn't know black out rules...

cause if the game is available anywhere on CSN Cal, then if its also on a channel we can get here, ie WGN for White Sox games, it will be blacked out. Cause CSN Cal will have exclusive rights, if you can receive the channel or not.

I’m sick of this bs.

Who needs homeruns?

by robber23 on Mar 6, 2009 3:04 PM PST up reply actions

Very true

Not that it matters to many of you I avoid the blackout rule living in Portland, OR.
I just wrote DirecTV for the 4th time as well as CSN California.

I am holding out hope however this is looking more and more like the CSN Northwest dispute.

by HRH on Mar 6, 2009 3:12 PM PST up reply actions

My sister has DirecTV in Portland as well

I’ll tell her to write them as well….she’ll be pissed if she doesn’t get the A’s games….

There's no crying in baseball!

by gigglingone on Mar 6, 2009 8:27 PM PST up reply actions

I just wrote them again as well

I have Total Choice as my plan but I don’t think this includes channel 698 or 698-1 (HD). I will not pay DirecTV to watch the A’s — I will (very reluctantly) switch to Comcast.

Losing this team would be a huge failure for this city and an affront to Oakland’s great sports legacy.

by skigurl on Mar 6, 2009 4:39 PM PST reply actions

Paying wouldn't matter anyway

It seems they’re not carrying them at all. Period.

What’s really sad is it sounds like DTV IS carrying the San Jose Earthquakes from what I can gather. Why can they get this done for the soccer league and not for baseball?

by athletics68 on Mar 6, 2009 6:14 PM PST up reply actions

Regular Cable too?

I have Comcast Oakland,Which means I get ch 2-82 and 82 is kind of fuzzy. I read something the other day,I think on wednesday, that It has already started but i checked all my TV’s and Its all blank. So,will I even get CSNCA?
The Tribune said-
“Beginning today, CSNCA will air on channel 89 on Comcast systems. CSNCA still is negotiating with its other distributors such as Astound, DIRECTV and the DISH Network to make the channel available to all subscribers by the start of the season.”

by SportySyd on Mar 7, 2009 12:07 AM PST reply actions

Any word on negotiations?

We’re getting REALLY close to the season now and I’d really like to see my team on TV when they’re out of town.

Receiving CSNCA on Regular Cable

Hey SportySyd,

I think you need one of the new digital cable adapter boxes that Comcast is distributing free of charge. I have the exact same problem you have. I get the Comcast Standard Cable Package. You should be able to call Comcast and request that they send you the new box(es). I called them last night and should receive them in a few business days.

Thanks Alot.

That’s good to know. I thought I was going to have to pay more each month or something. I have to get right on that and call that number.Thanks.

Sadly for DTV users

I called Directv earlier this week, and they said the two sides are still in negotiation. And that CSN-CA had no been added to any basic packages. Also doesn’t sound like the A’s are even on CSN-CA on Directv either at this point.
