Around SBN: VIDEO: The Daily Show Talks Jeremy Lin

What is going to happen sometime around July?

At this point going into the season, I think we can all agree that our fortunes have reversed from last year, and now it is our pitching staff that is the biggest question mark. Most of the focus on AN has been who is going to fill the five starting slots when the discussion of our pitching staff comes up. But I have another question: What is going to happen towards the middle half of the second part of the season?

Outman, Cahill, Anderson, Braden, Eveland....all the focus has been on how they will fare, and if they are ready to face major league hitting. But out of this group, only Eveland has over 150 IP last season. None of these guys have thrown 200 innings in their life. What is going to happen to our pitching staff, collectively, as the dog days of summer approach? Are we going to see a lot of 4 inning starts and a heavy dependence on our middle relievers? What happens when these guys run out of gas? Or will they?

2008 Trevor K-Hill 124 innings between A/AA

           Brett Anderson 105 innings A/AA

Josh (You are) Outman 122 innings AA/AAA/MLB

           Diamond Dallas 70 innings MLB

Dana (not here only Zul) Eveland168 innings

This is the question

I asked this a few weeks ago. I imagine the depth will come in handy. Williams, OUtman, GOnzalez and Gonzalez will get a bunch of innings. I suppose Cahill will have an optioned burned this year. Hopefully it won’t matter in the long run.

I don’t know about anderson. He is a lock to start the season in Oakland, no? I just don’t know, six pitcher rotation?

1st place, 25 games ahead, Angels already publicly conceded division race

I could prove God statistically. Take the human body alone - the chances that all the functions of an individual would just happen is a statistical monstrosity.

sometime around July?

I just got back from a 10-day vacation, so I know I won’t be going anywhere in July….

Innings Pitched Last Two Years, Minors & Majors [Player, IP 2008, IP 2007]

Dallas 124.3, 148.1
Eveland 189.0, 37.2 (132.2 2006)
Anderson 105.0, 120.1
Gallagher 143.4, 115.4
Outman 122.6, 159.1
Gonzalez 157.0, 150.0
Cahill 124.1, 114.1

The ones that jump out at me are Cahill/Anderson. If Cahill/Anderson start in the bigs and stick all year they’re going to have to be monitored closely and possibly shut down(more of an issue if we make the playoffs). All in all not a big problem.

I know some of these guys have pitched in the offseason in other leagues too, not sure where to find that info.

Thank you Livermore (Bladderless?)

I was basically too lazy to copy all the stats, but it clearly has to be a concern.
That is about mid-July pitching totals for healthy pitchers starting in a 5 man
rotation. It would seem our middle guys are going to be busy…EGon, Gio, Springer, et al

I like Cindi. A. She never pretends to know more than she does. B. She has unbridled enthusiasm for her "Hotties," and isn't afraid to show it. -IM4Oakgal

Holliday traded?

Only if the A’s can get a top shortstop prospect, and I don’t see that happening on a half-season rental. My guess is that Holliday stays with the A’s through the season, winds up a type A free agent, and the A’s pick up another draft choice for 2010. This is particularly important because they’re losing one with the Cabrera signing for 2009.
