I'll miss you Bobby....
I wish you all the best, you were frustrating for the last few years so I will concentrate on the positive points....
The Future.....
I watched you closely in Sacramento and when I knew it was inevitable that Tejada was leaving I didn't panic.
You started off by winning the ROY, in fine A's tradition ( Byrd, Canseco, McGuire, Weiss, Grieve, You, then Street)
You had such potential in your first year; you hit line drives into the gap as if you were punishing opposing pitchers for some personal insult.
You were popular with the ladies, my sister once told me that if you were to ask her out she would immediately break up with anyone else on the planet (except for Eric Chavez). My girlfriend thinks you look like Brad Pitt. You pretty much could have married my sister or stolen my girlfriend and I probably still would have rooted for you.
You never did anything to hurt the game. You never took steroids, you never were arrested, and you never spoke poorly of teammates or management. By all accounts you seem like a nice guy.
Potential Lost......
You found new ways to get injured, and every time you did I sighed to myself and thought, "at least next year you will be the comeback player of the year". But you just kept getting unlucky. I wasn't the only one, Gammons, who is rarely off the mark, predicted you would be the MVP only a few short years ago.
You and Chavez should have been the cornerstones of the little franchise that could but you couldn't get healthy. We (the fans) held on to hope and rooted for you every year. I was doing it again this year after I heard you took BP with Big Mac and the Matt Holiday.
First Cabrera came along and then Nomar put the final nail in your coffin. I hope you get traded, and I will follow you. I hope you put up monster numbers, I hope you show the world that you still have it. I will root for you as long as you aren't playing the A's. You deserve better, but baseball is a business and it is time for the fans and you to part ways.
Good luck. I will miss you.

I don't know why you're saying goodbye
I imagine we can’t trade him, since nobody would even take Crosby off waivers. The choices are:
A) Trade Bobby Crosby and enough money to cover his salary ($5.5 million) for a middling prospect. Is there anyone out there that needy of a shortstop to take him? I doubt it.
B) Keep Crosby as the backup middle infielder. Assuming we sign Nomar (or even if we don’t and keep Hannahan/Pennington) Crosby can still play roughly 100 games as a backup to OCab/Ellis (teach him to play 2B) and as a decent pinch hitter. I know he wants a trade but his salary is just too high to be desirable.
I can’t see the A’s trading him and his salary, since our only organizational lack is Shortstop, which would be sort of self-defeating for the team that gives up the SS prospect.

I'll Never Forget
The game last year on TV where the A’s were playing the Giants. Crosby comes up to the plate and you hear clear as day, somebody yelling “BOBBY CROSBY’S GAAAAY!” As much as an A’s fan as I am, I had to laugh my ass off. It was great…

Man it's really gonna suck if he is on the bench fuming with resentment.
Not that I would mind making 5.25 mill for sitting on the bench.
Just don’t want any negativity in the clubhouse or in the dugout.

Wait, we tried 3 months ago. Instead we’d be giving away Crosby and 5.5 million for a middling prospect.

Crosby's 5.5 million
should really be looked at as a sunk cost. The A’s can’t seem to get rid of that 5.5 million at all, and it’s less efficient to play him everyday compared to Cabrera. That he is paid more should not affect that decision.
So… that 5.5 million the A’s paid for Bobby Crosby this year is down the drain. It’s gone, folks, and it’s not coming back. Deal with it.

I guess I will just miss pulling for him...
I just liked pulling for him to live up to his potential. I am not wishing he were still starting, he clearly is a career disappointment. I just liked the feeling of hoping he would have a comeback year. I don’t have any opinion on Cabrera one way or the other, I don’t get excited for him yet, I am sure I will once the season starts.
Also McGuire….blech, unforgiveable. Sorry about that.

My own Crosby moment
Yeah, I actually have one. A’s versus SF, 2005. I had four Giants fans sitting behind me, and every time Number 7 came up they started with their “Crosby sucks” banter; yeah, real clever and original stuff. And every time Crosby came through with a hit. So I’d lean back a little and in my most sarcastic tone, yelled out “Crosby suuuuucks!” (Looking back, I feel a little lame right now). Well, after his fourth hit of the night, and one more sarcastic shot at the guys behind me, one of the hotties sitting directly in front of us says to me, “Why do you keep saying that? Especially since you’re wearing an A’s hat?”
Yeah.
What, you don’t believe Crosby got four hits in a game? It’s true!
I'm here to talk about the past.

Cubs may be interested in Crosby
I think Bobby would do better with a change of scenery. It’s never easy taking a demotion with your current employer:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/03/04/SP07168C7A.DTL says:
_Shortstop Bobby Crosby becomes the A’s backup middle infielder with the Cabrera acquisition, but there could be some interest in him before the spring is over – including from the Cubs, according to one source. One of Chicago’s top scouts was watching Tuesday’s game and is known to have been a fan of Crosby in the past.
Crosby singled in the fifth inning of Oakland’s 6-4 loss to Chicago and is batting .444 this spring._
http://www.rotoworld.com/content/clubhouse_news.aspx?sport=MLB&majteam=OAK says:
The newspaper notes that the Cubs had scouts watching the A’s earlier this week. Chicago may view Crosby as a potential middle infield backup after dealing away Ronny Cedeno, but Oakland would likely have to eat a big portion of his $5.25 million salary.

I don’t even care if it ends up costing the scout his job as long as a deal gets done first.

They had a Cubs scout on the mlb.com broadcast yesterday. Judging by what he was saying, I think he has the Crosby Crush. This scout went to Japan several times and convinced the Cubs to sign Fukudome. And he said (his son?) was responsible for signing Eric Patterson. After Patterson made an error for us at 2B, the scout said his best position is outfield…just what we need: a corner outfielder with a .260 wOBA (aka: .450 OPS) (aka: “a Punch and Judy hitter…without the Punch”).

Time changes all things
Maybe Toronto will consider taking Crosby off our hands now. Yea we may have to pay 60%+ of his salary but at least he moves on to a new environment, we get a roster spot and he can quit trying to live up to the Tejada heir apparent. I was always optimistic that Crosby would turn things around but it’s been painful to watch him the last couple years at the plate.

I think it would be in everyone's best interest at this point
if Bobby were dealt to another team. Just like any job that has run it’s course…..it’s time for him to move on. Hope the A’s and Cubs, or any other interested team, can work something out.

I don't mean to jinx Cabrera but...
Cabrera has averaged 702 plate appearances the last 3 years. And he’s missed 6 games on average per year since 2001. So, the need for a backup SS isn’t really that pressing. This is why Cabrera’s VORP numbers look so good (10th best for SS the last 3 years). Cabrera never sits.
Crosby should be traded/dumped/whatever. For Crosby’s good…and our clubhouse’s good. He’s not going to be happy with 6 games at SS all year. And he shouldn’t be.
