Hanley wants to be traded... go get him, Billy!
His current contract is 6 yr/$70M.
I hardly even care what it takes, there just arent many opportunities to get that kind of power from the SS position, gotta go for it

Hmmmm... interesting
Of course he would be great for any team and it’s not like we have anyone at SS in the minor league system pegged as our go to guy for the future.
How could we make this happen though? Any ideas?

We can't.
Long term contracts for superstars is not the A’s way of doing business.

Of all the long term contracts in baseball, this is probably the most team-friendly of them all. Hanley is a top 5 player in baseball and he will be making on average just a few more million than Edgar Rentaria (not the same length, I know). If Beane can get him with a lot of spare parts, it woud be magic.
How about:
Simmons
H-rod
Cunningham
one of Coleman, Christian, Leyja
Italiano
maybe a couple more throw-ins.

exactly
as big contracts, go this is VERY do-able. Hardly more than Chavez. I’d be willing to pay a fairly steep price like:
Mazzero or Gio or even Ynoa
J Weeks/Barton
The biggest impediment is that the Marlins would have to be out of their flipping minds to trade Hanley, but then they are the Marlins so history suggests they’ll trade anyone
The glare was not practiced. I would get into the game situations, and when that happens, there comes a level of concentration that most can only imagine but can never achieve. You become what you are doing, and that is what you see on my face. -Dave Stewart

What would it take?
If I’m the Marlins, I would think the bidding would have to start at Ynoa, Cahill and Crosby, or something like that … and go up from there. Ynoa would have to be the centerpiece, though.

Your right...
At least until we get a new stadium and the much sought after revenue it will supposedly bring. According to BB these are the type of tantalizing semi-opportunities that he won’t be able to explore unless that happens.
Speaking of which I think I’m one of the few people left still in denial that we’ll almost definitely leave Oakland. (sigh)

It would be great to get him
I just don’t know if it is possible, but I would give up a lot for Hanley

Cardenas, Carter, Simmons, GioGonzalez,
If you had a lineup of 9 Jack Custs who hit(Cust career average) .239 AVG, .382 OBP, and .475 SLG, then your team would score 6.12 runs per game-totalling to 991runs a season. The 08 rangers lead the majors in runs score with 901.

I think it's conceptually intriguing
but still very unlikely.
The A’s could probably just afford him. I don’t think this happens if they’re in contention at the deadline. But, if they’re not, maybe they deal holliday for prospects in one trade and prospects and cabrera for hanley in another. Or something like that.
There would need to be a lot going back to Fla in this deal, and the red sox, yankees and other teams will be in the running for him (maybe twins, dodgers, angels and giants). The a’s may offer the best package of prospects, though.
One thing to think about is that he’s increasingly seen as something other than a quality shortstop. I think you live with that for the production, but he could be custian defensively and offensively.
I’d deal aggressively for him.
Do you know the way to San Jose?

I really wish this wasn't a pipe dream!
After reading the article, there is no way he is leaving anytime soon. Ownership seems to have calmed him down and would certainly override any mgmt call before it got that far. IMHO, with their stadium deal they would probably lose a manager before….not right by any means, but more likely. It is nice to dream though!!!
Save the thesaurus for when you are in front of the judge. When speaking of the A's, speak with your heart on...................your sleeve!
