Ugh... need some help with Spring training hotel, please?
Well, we FINALLY got our spring training schedule ironed out.. and of course, the hotel we were planning on staying at is now completely booked. :-(
So after spending HOURS looking for a better hotel (We need relatively cheap -- the economy has kinda killed our spending money) I came up with... nothing.
Oh sure, there were plenty that claimed "Oh, stay with us, we're cheap and nice!" Then I read the reviews and see they're all titled "NEVER COME HERE. EVER." Turned me away from them just a bit.
Wow, I'm rambling. what a surprise. Anyways, to make a long question short -- does anybody have any suggestions on hotels to stay at? We'll be there from the 26th to the 30th... any room under 90 dollars a night pretty much the cap. :(
If you have personal experience at a specific hotel, that would be great, because I would prefer NOT to be mugged or otherwise while enjoying a rare vacation from work. :-) And apparently, from reading the reviews, that's not that uncommon of an event. :(
Just any help with this really, the last hotel we went to was terrible I don't even want to set foot in there again, much less stay. :-/
P.S. If anybody is going to be in Phoenix to catch the last gasp of Spring training, It'd be awesome to say hi to a fellow ANer at the game! :-)
EDIT: forgot to mention, we have a puppy that has to come with us... so the hotel has to be pet friendly.
Has anybody ever stayed at the La Quinta hotel in Phoenix, the one by the airport? there were only two reviews, so I can't really tell what it's like. :P

I've stayed at some real stinkers myself in the past.
However, I have not stayed in a bad hotel for the last 3 years now because I make sure to read reviews of the hotel I’m staying in prior to booking. I’m a 3 star hotel kinda guy (no reason to spend big money when I’m going to be out drinking most of the time), but because of the horrific experiences I had four, five, and six years ago I make sure to read reviews of a place before I book.

the ones that I have been looking at were two stars
“economy” I think. I’ll check out some 3, though, not looking for anything fancy. :P I’m bummed, because the one that I WAS going to stay at was a “two star” class but a 5 star rating. {gets mad for not booking sooner}
What hotels have you stayed at that WEREN’T stinkers? (Amazing how many of those are around phoenix…. :-(

The Motel 6 at 5315 East Van Buren
is six blocks from the ballpark, and is (including tax) $66/night on Friday/Saturday, $56/night other days. No frills, boring neighborhood, but no other downsides.

It pays to be a sound sleeper at the Motel 6.
Pitiful bleatings and worse.

Glad to see you post this.
I’ll be there this weekend along with 20 of my friends, headed out for my bachelor party. I picked this spot since not one of us will be fit for driving this weekend and cheap + close to the park looked like the perfect formula.
the 6 is good
found myself staying right next door to Nico at the ‘6 – it’s exactly as he describes. the more discriminating might frown (my friend would’ve rather stayed somewhere else) but I thought it was great, and easily stumbling distance to the games.
"He's pretty nasty," Gardenhire said. "The last pitch to Harris, we went and watched it, it's on the black. It cut the outside corner of the plate, the tip of it, and that's pretty nasty."

I just stayed 3-nites
At Comfort Suites, on Scottsdale Blvd N of the Loop 101— just a few minutes from PHX Muni. It’s in Tempe, a few blocks south of the Scottsdale city limits. Good location for A’s fans, I’d think. I went to Cubs games at Camelback Ranch, Mesa and Peoria, so I had to do some driving. if you are going just to Muni, it’s perfect.
I picked up a 71-dollar rate (weekdays) a month ago thru AAA. It’s an older hotel, but it’s clean and OK. Free breakfast……

Make that QUALITY Suites.
Same corporate ownership…but Quality, not Comfort.

Hotel rates
Hello, well today may be your lucky day. I just happen to be a regional revenue manager(which means i set the prices) for a major Hotel company, IHG. I actaully have a very cool Hotel in Scottsdale that I am sure I can help you with a really great rate. My Hotel is Hotel Indigo, it is very close to Scottsdale Stadium but it is not far from Phoenix Muni either. My Hotel is very new and is a very cool hip hotel. You can check out our website at www.hotelindigo.com or www.scottsdalehiphotel.com, and if you are a Priority Club member you will get points for staying. Check it out and then email me and let me know the dates that you are travelling and what your budget for rooms is and I will take care of a fellow A’s Fan.
If anyone else is travelling to Spring Training and is need of a Hotel room just let me know. My email is bryan.cauwels@ihg.com.
Go A’s!!!
There is no A in OFFENSE!!
Hmmm...
Would you calendar a fanpost for late 2009 — I think an “AN week at ST” might be an interesting prospect for all concerned.

Highly recommend TripAdvisor
If you have a chance, I would check out a site called TripAdvisor. Hotels are ranked by popularity & price. The Hotels & Inns are mapped out & good & bad reviews are given by average, everyday people. The link is here. When the family & I went to Disneyland, we used this site & the reviews of the hotel we stayed at were dead-on accurate. I have actually used this site for a number of vacations, & the rankings have always been very accurate. Have a great time.
Paddle Faster! I hear banjo music.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
I’ll check out the places, hopefully I can get everything figured out soon… like today. :)
{is very excited}

Do you have an email address you care to share?
I have some suggestions for you and would like to take it offline.
If ever a game should have been called on account of wind, that one was it. Good thing Jerry Blevins didn't have to pitch; he's tall, skinny, and I could practically see one of the 40-mph gusts...sweeping him off the bump and pinning him to the left-field fence. --Mychael Urban

Thanks, Zigfan! :D
