A's #1 in BP's Organizational Rankings
It wasnt too long ago that our system was very average with the major league club payroll inflated with little room for flexibility. Now we have a team that is capable of winning this year with a very manageable payroll, and the best farm system in the MLB. Our future here at AN looks very bright. Beane has done a wonderfull job over the past two years. I have to admit I didnt like the idea of trading Swisher/Haren at the time but now my view has changed dramaticaly. Here to another 6-7 year run at the ultimate prize like 2000-2006. Great job Billy.

That's cool.
Not a very long enrtry from Goldstein, though.
Thanks for the post

Fascinating
There were 7 A’s in the BA top 100, only five in Goldstein’s— yet, the A’s rank first in these rankings and I believe 3rd in BA’s. Curious. Perhaps Goldstein is giving more credit to the mid-level pitching depth in the A’s organization which doesn’t make the top 100.

its also about who Goldstien does not like
namely, players like Elvis Andrus and Tylor Teagarden.

I think BP tends to look at the organizational depth issue the way I do
I’d much rather have 10 B prospects and no A prospects than 3 or 4 A prospects and the rest a bunch of C prospects. With the attrition rate of young players, especially pitchers, you’re just more likely to get something useful out of the quantity. Maybe 10 B =/= 3-4 A, but I think you get what I’m saying.

It got old for me about, oh, four months ago...
well, whatever floats your boat, I guess.

Luckily, I don't give a shit whether or not it's old for you.
"I’m Joey Devine, I’m what Joba Chamberlain would be if he was good and nobody had ever heard of him."
what about the guy you’re constantly harassing?
i don’t know if he minds or not, but i do know that he almost never responds, and apparently he still has not joined…

I think mikev knows I just don't have the time for it right now
But I don’t feel like saying “not now” every single time.
I haven’t even played the game in more than a week.

how would an online league work?
sending the file around to everyone everyday?
The Not-So-Casual Fan
The file is held on a server.
Everybody downloads the file, and has their own login for their team.
make changes, etc, then you export (it’s built into the game when you enable online leagues).
When the commish gets ready to run a sim, he first imports all of the files on the server so that the lineup changes, contract offers, and any other transactions each team has made get done.
Pretty simple once it’s set up.

I see Texas as having the best system. I think the rankings really depend on how heavily you weigh top end prospects vs. organizational depth. But ya, I’d pretty much take our organization over almost all others.
"If Bowden was a general contractor, he'd build houses with nine bedrooms, six garages, no bathrooms, and half a roof."
I see a nice rivalry between Oak and Tex
in the near future. I still hate the Halos more tho.
"Their Triple-A rotation, led by Trevor Cahill and Brett Anderson, could be better than some big-league rotations; Michael Ynoa is the best Latin American prospect of the decade; 2008 draftees Jemile Weeks and Rashun Dixon bring much-needed tools to an advanced group of hitters.l." - BaseballProspectus.com
We should create a AN opinion survey on the most despised franchises...
Similar to the Top Prospects, where we vote on the next choice.
Yankees, BoSox, Halos, SF, Tex Strangers, Seattle (although hard to dislike when you kill them season after season), ChiSox, New York Mets, Minnesota Twins (seem to always have our number), LA Dodgers (‘88 WS), Philadelphia Phillies (there players historically seem to be the antithesis of our identity ’Athletics’ i.e. Kruk, Blanton, Moyer, etc.)
The Stockton Ports pitching staff is better than the Orioles.
I'm pretty sure I remember a poll like that a few years ago
But we’re certainly due for a fresh one.

I'm always an intetdivision hater
Recent years that has to be the Halos but I remember a time I could not stand the Mariners.

Inter division. I’m a product of the California education system and 3/4 retarded so forgive me. It’s a terrible combination.

What always bothered me about him was that he was one of the most obvious steroids users
And yet he’s flipping the bat like he came by those home runs naturally.

agreed
"If you hit .440 with 20 bombs, you don't have to do s---. You don't have to bring a glove to practice, just hit and leave whenever you want. You can bring a 40 and smoke a cigarette and call me from the parking lot asking me what time the game is, and I'll tell you. You can even say 'F--- you, Steve!' Actually, don't say that, that wouldn't be very nice." -Steve Friend, Head Coach, Chabot College Gladiators Baseball
Brett Boone got his just desserts in the end....
he was awfully sad at the end……forced to retire, pretty much, after his body started breaking down from all the years of steroid use. Never much cared for him, anyway.
