Any updates on receiving CSNCA with different cable providers?
I was just wondering if anybody had an update regarding receiving CSNCA with DirecTV or any non-Comcast cable provider?? Hopefully something gets worked out.
I have Comcast Standard Cable myself. When I turn on my set, I still do not receive CSNCA (channel 89 on Comcast.) I learned that since I get my cable "through the wall" , or without a box, I will need to get one of the new digital cable adapter boxes that Comcast is distributing free of charge.
The phone number for a Comcast digital adapter box is: 1-877-634-4434. http://www.comcast.com/digitalnow/

Comcast analog cable
I’m also on Comcast standard analog cable (no set top box), but if you have a newer tv with a built-in digital tuner (or one of those converter boxes that people are getting for over the air signals) you’ll find that they’re already sending digital versions of some channels. I get CSN-CA on channel 105.4 (or 105-4).
Also, I found that that website for their digital conversion is useless – after I entered my information, it said I needed to call them instead. (I finally called and got my adapters this week, but haven’t installed them yet.)

That's right
Comcast’s own digital conversion has created a situation where a lot more channels are available on Clear QAM than before. It used to be that only broadcast channels and a handful of basic cable channels (Discovery, CSPAN1/2, shopping) were available. Now all of basic and much of expanded basic is now on there, including ESPN/ESPN2, CSNBA/CSNCA, TNT, TBS, USA, FX, and all three news networks. It’s great for someone like me who runs his own homebrew DVR.
If you’re a basic cable subscriber and you happen to have a digital TV, this is worth looking into. There’s a learning curve as the channel locations are a difficult to figure out at first, but if Comcast keeps it this way it’s worth it.
Ah
Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the correct terminology. I’ve been curious about these stations since we got a new TV a couple of months ago, since (as the wikipedia article notes) they are not officially documented anywhere.

Forgot the best part
No cable box rental! Always a good thing.
I did what andeux did
and found the CSN-CA channel on 99-10. I assume it’d be the same for others in the Pittsburg/Antioch area.
DirecTV
They continue to get me the same generic email that Comcast and DirecTV are in ongoing negotiations. When I call they tell me thinks DO NOT look too promising. DirecTV subscribers be prepared to watch the A’s strictly on the competitions channel with their broadcast team.
I continue on, writing 3 emails a week to DirecTV however I see the same reply every single time.
Keep at it HRH
I also actually tried to call DirecTV to voice my complaint (even though I have Comcast) but you need an account # to actually speak to a real person unless you are a new customer.
I was hinking of getting DirecTV because it is cheaper and better than Comcast but if it means no A’s games then forget about it.

I'm pucking behind, can someone explain?
What exactly is the deal with the A’s and television these days? Are they no longer on CSNBA? What happened to KICU? I have direcTV, from the sounds of the post above, does this I do not receive CSNCA and thus will watch under 10 A’s games in this upcoming season? Thanks in advance!
the A's didn't renew their contract with KICU
so there are no broadcast channel options for seeing the A’s this year.
which is bull btw

Im confused with the DirecTV thing.
I have DirecTV but I get CSN-CA. Is that because I have more then a basic package? And if so does that mean I will get A’s games?
You must have the sports package or something like that
but if you get CSN-CA now (and right now they are showing Eastern Wash. vs. St. Mary’s bball), then you should be fine for the season
There's no crying in baseball!
Unfortunately
Although DirecTV does carry Comcast Sports Net California, The A’s new station, they have yet to reach and agreement w/ Comcast to carry the A’s broadcast. Thus, no A’s games will be shown on CSN-CA until they make a deal. The only way to watch the A’s if you have DirecTV is if you live out of market, have the Extra Innings package and watch the other teams broadcast that the A’s are playing.
For myself living in Portland I can at least see them on those channels. This same situation is occurring with Portland TrailBlazers broadcasts. DirecTV customers cannot watch Blazers games as Comcast and DirecTV have not come to an agreement for almost 2 years now. Hope this doesn’t happen to the A’s and these two can resolve their differences and strike a deal. From the sounds of it this could drag on for quite some time.
I called them
and they told me it would be available March 30th. I am on Comcast analog like mentioned earlier in the thread. I am not sure if they meant for me personally out here in Antioch, but that’s the word.
three different channels:
CSN-BA: Home of the Giants (and Warriors)
CSN-CA: Home of the A’s (and Kings I think)
CSN+: Shed out back where they throw the programs that are on at the same time as something on one of the first two channels
There's no crying in baseball!
A slightly expanded version.
CSN-BA: Home of Giants, Warriors, and the Current home of the Sharks
CSN-CA: Home of the A’s, Kings (blacked out in the Bay Area), Earthquakes, and rumored future home of the Sharks.
CSN+: Overflow games for when 2 channels of sports isn’t enough.
CSN HD: Will there be 2 HD channels now? The A’s website claims games will be broadcast on SCN-CA HD.

Revision 2.0 of the CSN network in the Bay Area
CSN-BA: (Ch40) Home of Giants, Warriors, and the Current home of the Sharks
CSN-CA: (Ch89) Home of the A’s, Kings (blacked out), Earthquakes, and rumored future home of the Sharks.
CSN+: (Ch410) Overflow games for when 2 channels of sports isn’t enough.
CSNBA-HD: (Ch720) Giants, Warriors, and current Sharks games in HD.
CSNCA-HD: (Ch721) A’s, Earthquakes, Kings (Black out), and rumored Sharks Games in HD
Note #1: All Kings games are Blacked out in the Bay Area due to Warriors territorial rights. If an A’s, Earthquake, or Sharks??? game is on at the same time you will see that game instead of the Kings game if you live in the Bay Area. One of the games will be sent to the “plus” channel if you live in Sacramento.
Note #2: The Sharks are also rumored to be negotiating with CSN-CA about changing stations after the current season. This would leave just the Giants, Warriors, and College Sports on CSN-BA. Considering the Warriors are currently suing CSN-BA about favoritism relating to the Giants minority ownership in the channel, will the Giants soon find themselves alone? It’s not like there is anywhere for the Warriors to move to now that CSN-CA seems that it might soon have a full load of teams.

Any updates on Astound making a deal with CSN-CA?
I e-mailed them asking it about it weeks ago but never received a respose.
I also emailed them a couple of weeks ago and got an almost immediate response,
which is that they WILL have CSN-CA by March 25, but they didn’t know what channel they would be putting it on.
...then Pennington takes over.
Update to my first reply:
i just checked the Astound channel lineups online, and CSN-CA is there now.
In Concord/Walnut Creek, it should be on channel 514.
On the Peninsula, it’s on channel 143 (it’s active now).
(link)
...then Pennington takes over.
Thats good news
That’s some good news at least. I didn’t know that Comcast and Astound had worked something out. Hopefully a compromise can be made between Comcast and DirecTV sometime soon.

Does this help?
Here is the A’s Comcast SportsNet page…
http://oakland.athletics.mlb.com/oak/schedule/csn_lineup.jsp
It lists TV channels for various Cities as well as various providers. DirecTV states Ch 698.
I am in Tracy and CSNCA is on Ch. 89 for me (first game is on tomorrow at 1:00). I think this is true for most of the Bay Area and the page seems to suggest that a Digital Cable package is not required in most cities.
Thanks but it doesn't really help that much
If you have DirecTV and live in the Bay Area, DirecTV does carry Comcast Sports Net California however DirecTV has yet to reach an agreement with Comcast to carry broacasts of A’s games. Therefore if you live in the Bay Area and have DirecTV then no A’s games will be shown on CSN-CA until an agreement is made between Comcast and DirecTV. I hope that makes sense.

I'm also confused....
I’ve been out of the AN/A’s news loop for some while now. I have DirecTV EI – does this mean I have to watch all the away feeds this year? Which I’m pretty much used to anyway. :)
And RE: ^^ CSNCA is on channel 698 on my DTV. I think that just answered my question.
"Smells like summer camp!"
No, you're good
It’s those of us who live in the Bay Area with Direct TV who, for now, can’t get CSNCA.

Good luck with the DTA box or whatever it is called
I got one and it would not work. Called Comcast until they gave me a new cable box.

From today’s Susan Slusser column:
Today is the first A’s broadcast on Comcast SportsNet California. The 1 p.m. game against the Giants will be on Comcast channel 89, channel 34 in Sacramento and Central California, channel 68 in Rio Vista, Travis Air Force Base and Vacaville, AT&T U-verse channel 767, DirecTV channel 698, and Dish Network channel 409, according to Comcast SportsNet.
black dirt live again
...and Astound, the system that doesn't exist, 514 in the East Bay, 143 on the Peninsula.
Okay, it’s a much smaller system, but I’m flummoxed that it is never, ever, ever, ever, ever included in any broadcast lineups.
...then Pennington takes over.
I am watching the game vs. the Giants right now through Direct TV
on CSNCA on channel 698. Will I not be able to do this once the regular season starts?

This is just peachy
I’m not as lucky a 33Swisher Street. Do you have a sports package? I don’t. But my understanding is that I’ll be out of luck during the regular reason anyway.
The whole thing is confusing and stupid. And by the way, I don’t let the A’s ownership off the hook. Yes, this is a Comcast-DirecTV pissing match. But it’s obviously happened before (re Portland), so they needed to make sure there would be no complications before signing their deal. Are they trying to lose fans?
I do have the sports package. I purchased it for around $8/month so I could
watch the few cal games that were broadcast on CSNCA. Complete joke, but I’m hoping it does the trick for me for the A’s games broadcast on that channel. I’m doubting it will since MLB has all those lame blackout rules that probably don’t apply until the regular season.
Anyone more in the know than me able to fill me in as to whether I will be able to see A’s games on CSNCA once the regular season starts – just as I was able to today?
by 33SwisherSweet on Mar 14, 2009 5:21 PM PDT up reply actions
Just great
I was sitting in my dorm room today hoping to watch the game. I switch to channel 89 because I think my school has Comcast but there’s nothing. Looks like I’ll be without A’s baseball for the first two months of the season until school’s done and I return home.

Basic Cable
I only have basic cable, will I still be able to watch games or is it only through digital and directTV?
