If they build, will they come?
I thought the problem with the A’s is not about the need for a new stadium but is about the city of Oakland itself. Fact is the residents of Oakland are not wealthy enough to support the team by purchasing massive amount of tickets or provide other revenue streams. The median income of Oakland residents is 40k which is just about the national average. My concern is even if the team stays in Oakland with a new stadium, will there be enough fans to support the team financially. I think not. Just because you build a new stadium doesn’t mean the fans have the money to come see it.
Apparently Lew Wolff agrees with you

if you're going to compare oakland residence incomes to SJ
You have to include the income of the suburbs around oakland, because oakland is not as large area wise.

Sorry but with a city the size of Oakland the cityies around play a very large part. A 500K population city can not support a baseball team by itself. San Jose would likewise have the same problem (it they ever get a team) without support from cities surrounding San Jose. Do you think all giants fans come from San Francisco?
Oakland, San Jose battle for Oakland?
Gee, I thought this was just about the baseball team. Guess the whole city is up for grabs!
What's G? Nothing but freakin' Gatorade. Geesh.
