Brad Ziegler on The Show on XM
Don't know if anyone one else heard this, I only caught the tail end of it. This afternoon Ziegler was interviewed on The Show. For the most part the interview was about Team USA in the WBC, but there was a small part about the upcoming A's season they spoke about. A couple favorite quotes of mine, from what I heard:
On whether or not the coaches and/or teammates had called him to check up on him:
"I don't know if they have, I've turned my phone off. I'm one of the few guys here who is still being paid the Major League minimum, I can't really afford the internation roaming charges [in Toronto]. They have my e-mail, so I figured if they needed to get a hold of me, they could get me there."
On having O-Cab at short:
"You know I really felt comforatable with Bobby behind me there, but to now have a three time Gold Glove winner there now, it's really nice"
Overall it was a typical interview, but it was still nice to hear an A's player getting some air time.
Did anyone catch the start of the interview?

anyone else worried
that he’s pitching in the WBC?
I'm starting to like our bullpen......Wuertz and all.
Nah
Of course if he injures his elbow I’ll be worried.

What the hell is he making a year? 350K?
And the guy can’t afford international roaming (to Canada)??
"RIP: UserID: 553"
Not with Bay Area rent to pay (even during a recession)!
I was going to buy a copy of The Power of Positive Thinking, and then I thought: "What the hell good would that do?"
Just something to point out..
He has to be fiscally responsible while he’s making league minimum because there’s the possibility that he could have a career-ending injury and have to go into the regular workforce with basically no real experience and an education that’s several years old. He could drop from 350K to 40K in no time.
Just saying.

Did I say fiscally responsible?
I meant financially responsible. I guess fiscally responsible is wishful thinking.

It's more like 400k
But it’s paid out over 6 months or so. So it comes out to over 50k a month. Alot of people I know would be happy making that in a year.
