This is just a quick "interim" post to update those who have said they intend to participate in AN's first Community Service event, Saturday, April 4th.
First of all, notwithstanding the many of you who hate the less fortunate and despise baseball, the response has actually been awesome. As of this writing, the poll shows 33 "yes" votes for people saying they plan to participate, with 29 of them planning to stay for the A's-Giants game at 1:00pm.
Thanks to pam5981, we have reserved the shift on Saturday, April 4th, from 9:00am-noon, at the Alameda County Community Food Bank. HOWEVER...They can only accept 15 volunteers per shift.
I have contacted Newman Center in Berkeley to see if we can reserve a shift there for Saturday, April 4th, and if we can to find out how many volunteers can sign up. Newman Center happens to serve hot meals to low-income residents the first Saturday of every month, and needs volunteers in the morning for that project. I am waiting to hear back and hope to have something to report by Monday.
So my hope is that we will have two different volunteer opportunities, same day and time, followed by "let's all meet up at the Coliseum at Gate D at 12:15pm for the game." Look for a new fanpost whenever I have more info, and feel free to recommend this one so as many people see it as possible.
