Open Thread: Spring Training Game 3 - A's vs. Brewers
My new softball cleats would like everyone to know how dedicated I am to the team this year; they're not white, but they are green and gold. That's my contribution; I think it will really make a difference.
Anyway, there's a game today (who gets tired of hearing that?!)! The A's open in front of their home fans for the first time this Spring Training, as they face off against the Brewers (again).
We get our first look at Dana Eveland, as he takes the mound for the A's against Manny Parra, a ten-game winner for the Brewers in his first full season last year.
The A's are looking to score some runs, and not to knock the longball, but it would be nice to see some runs put on the board in a variety of ways today.
Lineups:
Brewers
Kendall, C
Duffy, CF
Hart, C, RF
Fielder, 1B
Nixon, LF
McGehee, C, 3B
Counsell, 2B
Lamb, DH
Escobar, SS
Athletics
Davis, CF
Buck, RF
Holliday, LF
Giambi, 1B
Cust, DH
Suzuki, C
Crosby, SS
Dillon, 3B
Pennington, 2B
Let's go Oak-land!

I'm glad the guys in the cubes next to mine are all out of the office.
I get to turn my little radio on ‘speaker’ mode rather than wear headphones. Listening to the first broadcast of Spring Training gets me excited about the year.

I was on the ball this morning and sent in my radio question early
Asked about Mike Gallego on the coaching staff. I hope he can improve our infield defense. Gags was a great fielder; his only shortcoming was literal: couldn’t make a play on a ball hit higher than about 8.5 feet off the ground.

Is anyone else really excited to see Holliday, Giambi and Cust all in the lineup at the same time? Sometime next week, we should get those three + Chavez.

Should have better offense than yesterday, which was too close to the ’08 performance (or lack thereof).

I haven't seen anyone on the A's propose Cust for the two-spot
(not that I’ve seen everything written about what the A’s people say!!) Most of the time I see Sweeney penciled in that spot, occasionally Buck (and he’s there today).

When Billy said the Angles were "the team to beat"
I was distracted by a thing and thought he said “The Angels have Hasheem Thabeet” which made me temporarily worry about our pitchers getting fastballs past him…
