A's Radio Stations - Creating Traffic Accidents in the spring Every Year!
*Kevin drives down highway 80, clicking through each and every channel on the AM dial searching for an A's game, and not even knowing if the game is being broadcast or not, nearly causing 4 accidents with his search*
Being that it is very difficult to track down the best radio stations to pick up A's games, especially in Sacramento, I was wondering if someone could give me enough information or at least some opinions on how to listen in without having satellite radio. I go through this every year.... maybe there is a great link for information on when and where I can listen to games, but I will be damned if I can find it.
I figured this would be a good place to post this since I am sure it will help out many many fans listen to their favorite team. I am also wondering where I can get a list of spring training games that will be broadcast on the radio. I am sick of listening to Giants radio to get my baseball fix. Maybe this information is readily available in some very obvious place, but if I can't find it, then I am sure others can't find it too.
note: for myself, I am looking for a solid list of stations within the Roseville/foothills area.

I share your pain
Two or three times a year I’ll take vacation road trips throughout CA. Each time, I’ll track down the A’s list of radio affiliates (which is nigh-impossible by navigating within the A’s website alone; I always have to resort to Google).
Each time, I dutifully print up the list of affiliates. Each time, I scan for stations from Crescent City to Auburn to Visalia to Reno.
And almost every time, I fail. If I were a Giants fan pulling in the 50,000 watt flamethrower I’d need turn to only one place almost anywhere in the state. I’ll be interested to see if the A’s new station (call it a 50,000 watt Bic lighter) will provide solace.

The list of each team's radio affiliates is on their website
Go to any MLB team’s official website. Click on “Schedule” on the top horizontal menu. This should bring up the regular-season schedule in calendar form with a vertical menu on the left side. Click the “+” next to “Broadcast Information”. That will bring up a sub-menu which will include an entry such as “TV/Radio Affiliates”. Click there to get a list of the stations that carry the games. Duh, FSU! (Just kidding, but that’s where they’ve put that info for the last several years. You’re right, there’s nothing intuitively obvious about the route to that information.)
I’m sure glad SiriusXM received a sufficient cash infusion that it appears they will survive through (at least most of) the 2009 baseball season.
I can't get the "flagship" station at home in Richmond
I pick up other SF-based AM stations inside just fine, but nothing on 860. Outside in the car I can hear it, but it’s kind of soft and not as clear as 1550 was for me.
I have XM, so getting the game isn’t an issue. The issue is that I won’t be able to listen to pre and post game in the comfort of my own home, and when the A’s are away, it means no KenKo either. Add to the fact that DirecTV might not get the broadcast rights, all these “improvements” the A’s are doing end up screwing me over instead.
With my luck, SiruisXM will go under in September and no more A’s baseball inside my house.
Yay me.
So far, I have found 860 to be a bit faint / static-y in my car
I thought it was pretty powerful in the Berkeley area (with future reach to Sacramento but current strong reach in the East Bay). What’s up with that and will it, I hope, be better come April?

I'm getting static too
Can someone explain wattage to me? Why is KNBR’s 50000 watts so clear and far reaching while 860’s 50000 watts seem static-y?

It’s the concept of a clear channel, a radio station which enjoys protection from interference on its wavelength which far exceeds the protection a run-of-the-mill station gets.
In general terms, a clear channel station like KNBR is protected from having anyone else broadcast on AM 680 within over 1,000 miles or more. By comparison, there are a number of other AM 860 stations on the West Coast alone.

Well could all the rest of them please shut down immediately?
Thank you.

Yes, thank you for the explanation.
Now, how’s about a list of all thise OTHER 860 am stations? I think a roadtrip is in order!
With scissors?
I like the way you think…
