MLB Gameday Audio to stream "select" away feeds

This year's signup for MLB Gameday Audio says "All Home and select Away feeds".  In previous years, haven't all feeds both home and road (and in English and Spanish, if there's a Spanish broadcast) been available?  Who is doing the selecting?  Bureaucrats in New York with $$$ in front of their eyes deciding to carry nothing but "major market" away feeds? "Major market" teams being able to opt out and stream their own away feeds for even bigger $$$?

One of the reasons I haven't gotten XM Radio is their carriage of home audio feeds only... something for which there is no excuse on the Internet, which can stream an unlimited number of feeds simultaneously.  I would be very, very unhappy if Gameday Audio went in that direction.

I saw that too...

I was setting up my account today, saw that, and called the number on the screen. The rep at MLB.com basically made 3 points:

“Gameday Audio is the same this season as it has been.”

“Sometimes when a team plays an away game, they don’t broadcast that game locally. If there’s no broadcast, there’s nothing for us to stream.”

“If there is a broadcast, it will be on Gameday Audio.”

I’m still going to sign up, he sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

That's good news.

I just signed up for mlb.com audio

and the website said there would be no blackouts, so i’m assuming I’ll be able to hear every game.

That is correct

MLB TV has blackouts for local home games but you can still see away games unless they’re on a national broadcast. It determines your location by your IP address so if you are out on the road you’ll be able to see a home game (I learned this when I lived in Amsterdam and I could suddenly see A’s home games although I had to get up really early in the morning to do so…).

Not entirely correct.

If you are in the Twins market, for example, you would not be able to see the A’s play the Twins regardless whose feed it is. But, you could watch the A’s play the Rangers, or any other “out-of-market” game.

Yes, that's right

Just read the rules on MLB.com. It’s worse than I said and I’ll be blacked out of ALL live A’s games even if they’re on the road. I’ll still probably continue my subscription so that I can watch games on demand. But I’m torn between signing up for comcast cable just so I can see the comcast sports bay area games.

As long as they provide one team's broadcast they have honored the "no blackout" promise.

What I understand the OP saying is that they are going to start providing only one team’s feed for many of the games, so you may not get to hear your team’s feed, but may have to listen to the other team’s feed instead.

clarification: I have MLB.com audio, not telecasts

according to the welcome email message I received after paying all games have a choice of the home or away radio broadcast, and many will also have Spanish broadcasts.

If there are any blackouts they no doubt apply to the telecasts, not the radio broadcasts.

Right, I know.

I was going on the premise that the OP said they may not provide both team’s feeds, yet still fulfill their “no blackout” audio promise by providing only one. IOW: You’d still get to hear the game regardless, just not necessarily the feed of your choice.

I have since read that that does not seem to be the case, so mine was a moot point.

I went to the Gameday Audio thing yesterday to listen to the game, fully expecting to have to go through and buy a subscription again. However, after I entered my email and password, I was immediately shunted to the game stream, no credit card, no nothing. I went to my online banking to see if they had automatically renewed my subscription, but I could not find a charge. Is MLB giving returning subscribers spring training for free, or will they just charge me automatically when the season starts? I’d like to just get everything for free (such as video of archived games last year for some wonderful reason) but I also don’t want them to upgrade my subscription or anything without my knowledge.
