PrintIt's almost here. Yes, we're on the verge of Spring Training. P's and C's report to Papago at 10 a.m. Duke, Dana, Gio, Ziggy. Mazzaro, Anderson, Cahill. Wuertz and Springer. Zooks, Bowen, Powell.

I know not many will share this view today
but a February 14 reporting date and a February 25 first exhibition game, are absurdly early when (a) the first regular season game isn’t until April 6 and (b) we hope the A’s are still playing in the first week of November. Players keep themselves in good enough shape year-round now. The only players who should be reporting now should be those helping MLB fill its coffers by participating in the World Baseball Classic. Everyone else should report around March 1 and the exhibition games should start around March 10. I’d rather see the players be that much fresher in August and September.
The rest of you resume celebrating; Soaker will now go back to checking today’s college basketball schedule.

I wish they’d stick classic home whites and away greys, with the occasional ‘70s throwbacks sprinkled in for variety’s sake. If I never see the (non-throwback) green jerseys or the black jerseys again, it’ll be too soon!
