COMMUNITY SERVICE SATURDAY, APRIL 4TH - OFFICIAL SIGN UP THREAD!

So here's the deal. On Saturday, April 4th, for those participating 9:00am-12:00pm will be spent volunteering, and the afternoon will be spent sitting together watching the A's-Giants game at the Coliseum. The earlier poll would suggest that 33 ANers intend to participate, but now and only now is the time to find out "who's really in" and what they are in for (hmm...that didn't come out right, did it?).

The April 4th Volunteering Projects (as of now):

15 of us will volunteer at the Alameda County Community Food Bank, while another handful (assuming we have more than 15 who truly commit) will volunteer either at Newman Center (2700 Dwight Way in Berkeley), where they prepare and serve meals in the morning as part of their Loaves and Fishes program, or with City Team's Bags Of Love: Downtown Food Delivery program (722 Washington St. in Oakland), where they deliver food door-to-door to low-income families. Newman Center is basically confirmed, but only needs 2-3 volunteers for the morning shift, and I am waiting for confirmation from "Bags Of Love," which asks for about 8-10 volunteers.

How to sign up:

If you want to participate, you need to comment in this thread even if you answered the poll and/or commented in the previous thread! To make it as easy as possible, here's a key so you can use short-hand to explain which situation applies to you:

1 = I'm in for both the morning and afternoon, and will equally gladly go wherever the need is - just slot me in anywhere and let me know.

2 = I'm in, and will equally gladly go wherever the need is - just slot me in anywhere and let me know, but I cannot join for the game.

3 = I'm in for both the morning and afternoon, and I would prefer to volunteer at the Alameda County Community Food Bank.

4 = I'm in, I would prefer to volunteer at the Alameda County Community Food Bank, but I cannot join for the game.

5 = I'm in for both the morning and afternoon, and I would prefer to volunteer at Newman Center.

6 = I'm in, I would prefer to volunteer at Newman Center, but I cannot join for the game.

7 = I'm in for both the morning and afternoon, and I would prefer to volunteer with "Bags of Love."

8 = I'm in, I would prefer to volunteer with "Bags of Love," but I cannot join for the game.

9 = Other (Explain in your comment...)

If we have the "nice problem" of too many attempted sign-ups to a given location, we'll probably just use a "first reply, first confirmed" method of establishing the "confirmed list" and the "stand-by" list. Then I'll turn my attention to establishing an email group for private follow-up info, and to buying a block of tickets to the game. How'z that sound? Go AN!

Call me a 3

Because that’s what I aim to be. It can’t be that hard to see. For on that day, I hope to be Wes3.

And no, I do not like green eggs and ham. But thanks for asking.

1 here

Since I will be coming from Berkeley, I’m happy to do my service in Berkeley, but either Oakland location is fine too.

Hi Nico

I haven’t been paying attention much lately, so I didn’t see the original post. This sounds like a great idea! I’d happily participate if there is still need. Please put me down as a #3.

I remember way back when, I once volunteered at the Coliseum working in one of the concession stands. Back when the third deck was full of people for A’s games, they used to let volunteer groups up there to run a concession stand for charity. The group would get to keep a portion of the profits. It was so long ago, but I remember it being a fun time.

You're on! Until we hit 15 for the Food Bank, etc.

everyone who comments with a commitment is a go for sure. Thanks for being a part of this cool (I hope) day!

I did that once too

for my child’s pre-school. It was fun and I think we raised some good money.

The Dogma and I are "in" for AM and game. Put us where you need us. Otherwise, Food Bank.

Thanks, Nico!

Actually on the enneagram I’m a 7.
But seriously, I will serve where needed and look forward to the game and meeting you all.

Oh, just FYI, as of tonight

I have not heard back from “Bags of Love” (it’s amazing how hard it is to get places in desperate need of volunteers to get back to you when you say “I want to help”), so that one may or may not be a go. But we are on for 3-4 volunteers at Newman Center, and 15 at the Food Bank, for sure.
