Miggy pleading guilty?

I just heard Miguel Tejada is expected to plead guilty for lying to Congress about performance-enhancing drugs. Evidently this may happen as early as tomorrow and the information may be linked to the fallout of the Arod mess. I know he's not on the Athletics anymore but thought a few may find it interesting. After leaving the A's he has been busted about lying about his age and now this Roid-gate mess.

Good - maybe Houston will want to dump him

and eat a little of his contract, take crosby and his 5.5 million + a low level prospect – lets bring our boy home! “we’re getting the band back together.”

Are you...

expecting him to get work release?

I had no idea Tejada

was the subject of Federal scrutiny. I wonder if this is what caused the A’s to take a pass on his services. It also looks like the prosecution found a way to get at him. By agreeing to cooperate, he’s been assured that he will retain his visa and be able to keep playing ball in the U.S. I wonder who he had to give up? Probably more than a few ex-A’s are a little nervous right about now.

I'm going out on a limb here

but I would guess that “he gets paid 13 million dollars and isn’t very good” might have had something to do with passing on his services.

Worse than Crosby?

At the time I was thinking a straight trade with Houston.

Next year? Possibly.

For damn sure not $7M better than Crosby.

Yikes.

That actually hurts! I wonder if Barton is contemplating a little talk with the Feds?

I would love to have miggy back

He would make the A’s a better team in 2009 and probably 2010. Plus the more talent that is put around Holiday, the more the chances increase that he would stay. Yes, it may make it from 2% chance to 5 but still. He is not the player he once was but he is a top 15 SS.

using checks to engage in illicit activity

I’m sure the prosecutor enjoyed it. I’m getting the feeling they’re chaining these things together. I wonder what the end game is.

Actually

Tejada wrote checks to Piatt for HGH. It was all int he Mitchell Report, including photo copies of the checks with the memo line “Thanks for the roids Dude!” Okay the memo line part I made up.

Adam Piatt

Sports center is reporting the person he was protecting was Adam Piatt. Don’t do us any favors Miggy. Next thing you know McGwire will come out of the wood work to help the Cros find enough form to stay on the team.

Adam Piatt

was kind enough to provide the government with the leverage they needed to force Tejada into telling all he knows. I rather doubt that it stops with him.

Adam Piatt

Cooperated with the Mitchell Report and gave up plenty of names of guys who cheated, like FP Santangelo. He got them HGH.

by jeffro on Feb 11, 2009 7:58 AM PST up reply actions

Easy enough.

But I’m betting that the Feds aren’t going to be satisfied that that is the extent of Miggy’s involvement. He struck a deal after all. They already know that him and Piatt share a connection. They are going to want something in return for allowing Tejada to remain in the U.S. I imagine that “something” is a few more names.

if he

doesn’t have all that locked up, he really really needs a new lawyer.

Everything is taken care of, he has said what he is going to say and the prosecutor is satisfied. I am sure ICE is satisfied too, otherwise nothing would move so quickly.

by Future Ed on Feb 11, 2009 11:06 AM PST up reply actions

Maybe so.

But it wouldn’t surprise me a bit if there’s an ongoing investigation.

True

And he may be required to testify in future trials/grand juries as a part of his plea agreement. Has anyone read the actual agreement?

Adam. Piatt.

Ironic, isn't it?
