Oakland Presents Stadium options
"An Oakland downtown ballpark could have happened with the right mayor. "Over my dead body," declared Jerry Brown. Now Ron Dellums has a chance to mark his undistinguished mayoralty by saving the A's for Oakland.
There's a news conference planned in Oakland today at which up to four ballpark sites will be named. I'm told my favorite aesthetic site, along the Estuary east of Jack London Square, didn't make the cut. That's insane. Please reconsider."

God I'm so tired of Lew Wolff being blamed for all of this.

The A's stadium sucks
A not insignificant part of the suckitude is Mt. Davis… which Wolff had nothing to do with. The stadium is at least 30 years old, there’s only so much pretty pretty you can do before you run into the basic limitations that come with a 30 year old design.
The monster at the end of this blog.
Not only that
But they basically just sucked up and bent over backwards to get Al Davis to bring the Faiders back, without really payin no nevermind to the A’s.
I mean it makes sense financially because the NFL is a huge cash cow, but the stupidass PSL/TV Blackout/non sellout stuff ended up shooting them in the foot anyway.
I dunno, it just baffles me that people are so vehemently against San Jose when the other likely options are out of the fucking state.
Then again I’m drunk and my fake online baseball team just won the world series (ping: thejd44!!!!!) for the first time in like 30 simulated seasons, so take me with a grain of salt righ tnow.

Blame
It’s obviously Al Davis’ fault.

Yeah, that was a pretty immature article.
But it shouldn’t be a surprise to see Wolff blamed even if the current situation isn’t his fault. He was brought in to lead the ownership group in order to find the A’s a new home, so it’s pretty natural that he’s going to take some of the scapegoat heat. It’s like working at an office that hires someone to lay people off – you’re obviously not going to love that person even though it’s not their fault that people are getting laid off.
I've never heard anyone say ...
we should just keep playing in the coliseum (as is)
Wolffe is all San Jose.
But as Dave Newhouse points out… first it was Denver, but in the end – they stay in Oakland. I think that doesn’t change.
Lets Go A’s!

have you seen how empty the stadium is?

Presenting 4 sites?
At this stage of the game? Seriously?
They need to pick a site and get after it already. From what Matier and Ross wrote, and then a recent article in the East Bay Express the 4 sites are the Coliseum, Howard Terminal, OFD Training site and an area north of Howard Terminal. Howard Terminal and the Coliseum parking lot have been rejected for almost a decade and they will only serve to bolster the claim that there is nothing in Oakland. The other two are in the same general vicinity. Why not pick the best one and get to buying up the land?
The Newhouse column is really off base on some things. The idea that Wolff, who came into this in 2005, is the problem 15 years after the Coliseum was destroyed shows what I consider a flaw in the pro Oakland group’s tactics. They like to point fingers all over the place, meanwhile their city government has done nothing meaningful in a loooooong time. Look at the whole 15 years history rather than the past 3 and the pattern is completely different.
I imagine the site east of JLS that was left off is my particular favorite, the OFD site which sort of contradicts the East Bay Express and M and R info. But we shall know shortly. Hopefully this is more than just Dellums talking and there is some sort of plan.
Exactly

This is basically what I’ve been saying over and over, but you put it into much better words.

That's about the gist of it.
I think it sums up the Oakland situation quite well :-P
