A's Get Crisp, Cubs Get The Byrd, For Similar Annual Amount

The Cubs have signed Marlon Byrd to a 3-year deal for $5M/year. This is not identical to the Coco Crisp deal, in that the A's are only committed to Crisp for one year, plus an option year, and the dollar amounts are not identical. But they are similar and the two men/fowl/cereal play the same position: CF.

Byrd's career stats show he has OPSed between .800-.850 for Texas -- but around .700 in the National League (WAS and PHI). His road OPS while with the Rangers ranged from .715-.773. He will open the 2010 season 32 years old.

Given that Byrd is not much of a base-stealer, and that his hitting, outside of Texas, has actually been "pedestrian to poor," I'd say better to have Crisp for 1-2 years, than Byrd for 3, at the same price. Your thoughts?
