Vote for Bill King: Frick Award voting on FB

I hope that I missed an AN post about this earlier, but I just realized that the Baseball Hall of Fame

Frick Award ballot and voting is on the HOF Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/baseballhall

I can't tell if you can vote more than once, I'm guessing not. Let's get Bill on the ballot again !  Maybe this will be his year!

Star-divide

Thousands of baseball fans have already used Facebook to stay connected to their heroes at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

Now, baseball fans can nominate their favorite broadcaster for the Hall of Fame’s prestigious Ford C. Frick Award through the Museum’s Facebook presence, now through Dec. 31.

Online voting for fan selections for the 2010 Frick Award began at 10 a.m. EST on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at the Hall of Fame’s Facebook site http://www.facebook.com/baseballhall and will conclude at 5 p.m. EST on Dec. 31 (in order to vote, fans must have an account and be logged in to Facebook). The top three fan selections from votes tallied at the site during December will appear on the final 10-name ballot for the award. The 2010 Frick Award winner will be selected by a 20-member electorate, with the winner to be announced in early February.

I can't speak for the rest of you,

but I’m getting sick of these bitches dismissing King. We put him up there every year and every year they select some other guy. It may be time to go commando.

How is not wearing underwear going to help him?

Even if it doesn't work it'd still be one hell of a party.

Or a frightening one…

Just voted

Just who in the hell are Jacques Doucet and Tom Cheek?

Hey Al, just go away, baby.

Cheek was a Blue Jays announcer. He looks like he's winning.

Great. I can't vote because I don't have a Facebook account

And Cindi tried to vote for King Bill.

I like Cindi. A. She never pretends to know more than she does. B. She has unbridled enthusiasm for her "Hotties," and isn't afraid to show it. -IM4Oakgal

Yeah, that blows

Given that it takes years to appreciate an announcer, and to hear enough of them to have an informed opinion, it’s hard to see the value in limiting nominations to the younger-skewing Facebook crowd.

Everybody's got a little light under the sun.

You mean most of those "18 year olds" are actually 72 year old pervs?

Bill King was a hall of fame guy in 3 sports

I grew up with him on the A’s and Raiders games and many people think he was at his best on the Warriors games.

Is this link on the official A’s site? Do the A’s even care?

by sirbed on Dec 18, 2009 8:44 PM PST reply actions

Unlike ballplayers, whose stats and video

can win them new fans after they’re done playing, virtually no one is hearing Bill King for the first time. This makes me very concerned for his Hall chances…if it doesn’t happen soon, his name will become incrementally less prominent on a list of mediocre broadcasters of more recent vintage and more broad TV-driven appeal.

Bill King needs to be in the Hall. There are other great announcers, but no one was ever great the way Bill King was. Strong technique, flavored with a worldliness rarely found anywhere in sports, least of all in the broadcast booth./

Everybody's got a little light under the sun.

I am really pissed about this

It looks as if the only way to vote is on Facebook. I have a Facebook account, but when you vote on a poll like this you have to give permission to Facebook to mine all the information from everything you’ve ever posted on FB (updates, notes, photos, events. etc) plus all of your friends’ information. It’s ridiculous! I just want to vote for Bill King! I’m not applying for a f**king mortgage!

Okay...so I just voted and threw my two cents in for The Sweet Devil

Here’s what I wrote:
“A’s fans and basesball fans across the globe…..Please vote for Bill King for this year’s Ford Frick Award for excellence in broadcasting! His absence amongst the greatest to ever call a baseball game, not to mention basketball and football-(A’s, Raiders, Warriors) is a travesty. Anyone who ever listened to Bill call a ball game will attest to his legendary visual artistry and incomparable vocabulary…he was simply unmatched!

Please vote now and tell your friends to vote for the great Bill King! Peace….-MRod"

I'm really annoyed as well about the facebook-only voting

It seems ridiculous to restrict the voting only to the people who have facebook accounts.

I’d suggest anyone who does not have a facebook account, or who doesn’t want to allow access to the “poll” application in order to vote, send your vote to info@baseballhalloffame.org directly. It will probably only take a couple hundred emails for them to realize that this method of voting is limiting access to a huge segment of the population….

(By the way, I did vote. But I still find it ridiculous that it’s only online through facebook….what’s wrong with setting up the poll on their own website???)

There's no crying in baseball!

It sounds like a marketing "cross promotion" thing to me

Like Facebook is paying MLB as a sponsor, and is getting back the name exposure and the number of people who will create new accounts in order to vote. Yay, capitalism!

Something is wrong here

I just voted and it says there are two votes, and I am assuming that includes me. And I can see that lynnzgal and DoctorK just voted above. What gives?

And, why is Hudler on this ballot too? That is disrespectful to Bill to have his name associated with Hudler
