Michael Taylor - Insider Perspective
Wow! Bob Rose is EXCITED about Michael Taylor! He even compares him to Dave Winfield and talks about Carter and Taylor making up the new version of the Bash Bros - The Mash & Dash Brothers , based on Taylor's ability to steal bags and hit bombs (both guys have potential to be 40/20 guys). In any event, check out the new entry of Clubhouse Confidentail at http://clubhouseconfidential.mlblogs.com/

If Billy...
wanted him and was willing to give up his #1 or #2 prospect for him then he is definitely for real. I can’t wait to see him in Oakland.
Chris Carter probably doesn't have the ability to steal 20 bases.
If you think Billy Beane is a bad GM, I hate you and find you stupid.
Carter can run, though.
He was 13-19 in SB’s between Midland and Sacto in 2009, and 7-9 in his career prior to ’09.

The OP said he had the potential to be a 40HR/20SB guy
And yes, he’s faster than one would expect a man of his size to be, but he’s probably not 20 SB fast.
If you think Billy Beane is a bad GM, I hate you and find you stupid.
Would YOU cover 2B if he was coming at full speed?
I predict he steals 131 bases his rookie year, all uncontested.

Holy crap what a good idea
Can we please make this happen? Maybe smoking a cigarette and wearing a sleeveless T-shirt too?

A 150 pound catcher actually blocked the plate when this first baseman was coming in full speed

And this guy is actually fast, as in sixteen-wheeler kind of fast. It took him forever to round third, but once he was in the final straight he had already achieved formidable velocity, with as much physical possibility of slowing down as a canon man in the air. Not that he had any intention of slowing down.
Anyway, the poor catcher had all summer to ponder the correctness of his decision. He didn’t have to waste that time on more trivial things, like, say wiping his own behind.

300lb bear, going by the name of Boris, visibly shaken upon realizing he had broken not one, but two arms of a fellow human being.
Have a glove you could spare for a good cause? If so please let me know
Softball. He couldn't resist the keg at every base.

Liked the article
but I think he might have gotten the Winfield comp from Baseball Prospectus, which said the same thing in the 2009 book.

I thought Mike Stanton was compared to Winfield??
Regardless get him too Billy
Not to be too cynical...
but Bob Rose better be excited about Taylor. Bob is the director of public relations for the A’s.

I found out what Brown can do for me.
Didn’t like it.
Speaking of that color, when is Andrew Brown supposed to be healthy? I recall he was open to re-signing with the A’s someday and totally forgot about him until just this moment.

Re-signed with the A's 4/29/09
a minor league deal, of course. MLB Depth Charts lists him as a minor league free agent, but I’m not sure that’s correct. Why would the A’s re-sign Brown after his surgery if they didn’t have him under control for 2010?

As for the injury

Also, here’s the S.F Gate link on his re-signing.

Not every Rose has its thorn, I'm guessing [though not every Hall has its Rose, either, I'm betting].
So, Nico, how is it that you’re seemingly always first to the punch with a quick-witted reply? I don’t understand how you can do this as often as you do. Granted, this one was Taylor made but geez.

Seriously?
Say what you will of Mychael Urban… he was a reporter not a PR man.
Mychael is undervalued on AN
Heck, he could suck and still be undervalued on AN. You’d think the man systematically ran over every blogger’s puppy over the past 5 years.

He really does take a beating here it’s a credit to him he interviews for this audience.

Agreed
He’s a reporter like any other. While I often disagree with him, I have respect for him after an e-mail discussion we had concerning Cust back in 2007 that he actually reprinted parts of in one of his stories. Few guys will give a fan they don’t know a voice like he did. That said a lot to me about what kind of guy he is.

he's left MLB.com.
he will now work for the Comcast Sports net California web site. I tried checking out the site - where Mychael said on the radio last night that he is still covering the A’s – but it’s one of the (annoyingly many) sites that causes my browser to hang.

Sorry, I mixed up Tom Singer and Bob Rose
For a second I thought Rose had replaced Urban.
But yeah, I liked Urban.

What did i tell you...didn't I say they would win? Yeah that's right I did didn't ? Wait.. what? They LOST?!?!?

Now all we need to do is PRAY a ballpark breaks ground ASAP...
cause Carter, Taylor + other hitting prosects, and all our pitchers. In 5-6 years we could be paying to keep them and if we can actually draw crowds again…… we could keep them
If the A's are contending
The crowds will come
by OaklandSi on Dec 17, 2009 10:43 AM PST via mobile up reply actions
Really?
Didn’t somebody do a study here recently that showed the A’s have never drawn very well, even in contending seasons?

A new ballpark is a great allure
At least temporarily. But if the team keeps sucking attendance drops off like a rock anyway. Take a look at Pittsburgh’s attendance.
by OaklandSi on Dec 17, 2009 11:45 AM PST via mobile up reply actions
doesn't seem to effect giants
there is also all the sponsorships that come with it. Increased revenue
Also affected the Reds
Of course a new ballpark helps. But a winning team draws crowds to the coliseum.
by OaklandSi on Dec 17, 2009 12:47 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
sponsorships, luxury boxes, tv contracts etc.
its not just about gate revenue. This is the big money makers and this is what the A’s lack the most. Before ATT park the bay area market was pretty even, now it’s 95-5 in giants favor, not cause they are better.
They still haven’t been to playoffs in a longer period than the A’s. But because they draw casual fan cause of the exerience, then the casual fan will have more interest in all things giants (everything from watching on TV to clothing)
Look we’re all big A’s fans here who will go to games if we win 50 games or 120 games. And everyone scoffs those ‘fairweather guys’ but those are the people who make you your money. You know the hardcore few will always come, but it’s about mass appeal to increase revenue thus increase the product
