VIncente Padilla shot by his shooting instuctor. What is not clear is how much Michael Young and Ian Kinsler paid the instructor, or if VIncente was just trying to learn how to be more menacing.

There needs to be 7th choice in the poll

The Answer to the poll question is:
Padilla’s agent.
By turning the tables and making Padilla look like the “victim”, even in a most bizarre type of situation, I’m sure the guy is banking that a sappy team or two might momentarily overlook the fact that Vicente has been the world’s worst teammate for years now and throw some guaranteed cash at him.
(I’m not entirely serious, but I’m not completely ruling it out either…:)

I don't approve of speeding
Although doing 74 on an interstate that’s posted for 60 is not exactly Esteban Loiaza territory. Can you imagine if the CHP ever started enforcing the posted speed limit on any Bay Area freeway?

The speed limits in WA are ridiculous
After spending time in CA. And everyone drives close to the actual speeds too! I actually found it really, really annoying to drive up there.
by rrryanc on Nov 5, 2009 4:10 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I suspect that I have different views on the speed limit
we should probably leave it there, really
by bobnothing on Nov 5, 2009 4:16 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I have driven in WA and my first impression (question) was why the heck are they all driving so slow???
So posted 60 = actual speed of 50. So with that in mind driving 74 = seems like 90 to the WA Highway Patrol.

That's not my experience.
When the posted speed is 60, people generally go between 60 and 65. Which admittedly is slower than in California, but not slower than the speed limit.
I assume you’re talking about freeways, but do you mean city, suburban or rural freeways?

I'm with you, Bob.
I also have no problem with the cops using their discretion to pull over the guy who is zipping between lanes and tailgating at 74mph in a 60mph zone, while not pulling over the guy who is going 74 mph in nice conditions on a relatively uncrowded road, staying in the left lane, while everyone in the other lane is going 68mph.

the cops treated him just like any other driver. They were neither unusually harsh nor unusually lenient just because he’s a baseball star. I also like that when the cops asked Lincecum to hand over the pot, he simply cooperated and didn’t get belligerent and make a fuss over it, like so many celebrities seem to do.

I think it vests if he has 540 PA in 2010 or 1100 in 2010+2011 combined. And there is a $1M buyout.

Oakland Athletics to Host Mascot Naming Contest
Clearly someone needs to submit the name “Stomper” for consideration.
The linked page, by the way, automatically starts a video clip, which normally I would object to, but in this case I don’t mind because I love listening to the reporter’s deep Michigan accent. I love regional accents, but the media has become so homogenized in the past 20 years it’s rare to hear a really strong one.
If you love accents, give yourself a treat and listen to this young lady. It’s like a clinic in the Northern cities vowel shift.
I fondly remember the year when Phil Simms and Paul Maguire were both on the broadcast team for the Super Bowl. That was back when Simms’ accent was still so strong you could barely understand him. Maguire’s was watered down but still recognizable. Louisville is less than 400 miles from Youngstown, but phonetically they’re completely different worlds. And both were completely unlike whoever was the mainstream guy with the standard accent (Dick Enberg?).
Good times.
