The Yankees Win It!

Photo

More photos » by Elise Amendola - AP

Well, the trophy comes back to the American League with the Yankees win tonight. The Bronx Bombers take home their 27th World Championship after a rather disappointing game six. Hideki Matsui drove in six runs as Pettitte outlasted Pedro in the dubious pitching duel; the final score was 7-3. There isn't much left to say about Mariano Rivera that hasn't already been said, but wow, does he still look good at 40!

So ends the baseball season of 2009. Here's to 2010!

It did take a while

Two of them were credited to Jeter's aura.

lol

What you fail to understand in your joyless myopia is that baseball is the key to life-- the Rosetta Stone, if you will. If you just understood baseball better all your other questions your, your... the, uh... the aliens, the conspiracies they would all, in their way be answered by the baseball gods.

Yes, you are right....

…haha, that’s even better! :-)

Yankee Opinion

I can take the Yankees being the World Champions. What is difficult for me to swallow is the blathering from some pundits that the Yankees victory is good for baseball. How’s that? Pee Ueew!

Rec'd

"Carter's 25-game hitting streak isn't any normal streak. He's 46 for 97 (.474 average) during the run, adding 16 walks and compiling 81 total bases in the process. I'm out of superlatives for what he's doing." - Kevin Goldstein

What if the yankees were to have swept the phillies?

Well, hopefully in 2010

my beloved team won’t fall severely short of my hopes and expectations, I won’t ever wake up to learn that the opposing pitcher was killed, and the team I most loathe won’t win the World Series.

For one of the worst seasons I can remember, it sure was a lot of fun! Thanks to y’all.

I used that theory in college all the time...but not about baseball.

Congrats Bums …

I am conditioned to hate you from birth, doesn’t mean I can’t respect the win … especially for Swish …

Swish was pumped

Thought I wasn’t happy to see him tote around the Yankee flag with him. I guess he’s just trying to prove his colors.

Having met him ...

With my kids … what a class act. This guy took the time to stand there and talk to my kids whilst he was an A … my daughter still rants about it to this day. “Stay in school, do the best you can.” A parent can’t have that kind of influence on a child like their heros …

That's nice

lynnzgal, I can’t add you on Facebook when I don’t even know your email address. Throw me a bone and hook me up, eh?

Please.

[smiles] Ciao, all, I don’t hang around much in the off-season.

Fuck the Yankees.

But I love me some Swish. Glad to see he has a title.

But seriously. Damn Bankees.

They call their best player "Kung Fu Panda" and they complain that people aren’t taking them or the game seriously enough? -Nick

Congrats Yankees!

Thank you for making all of Boston miserable this morning. They enjoy life more when they have something to bitch about.

I needed a team so I wouldn’t turn into one of the eighty million pink hat-wearing Bud Light-drinking mulleted idiots at Fenway.

Great

The team that picked up the two most expensive starting pitchers available in the winter beat the team that picked up the two most expensive starting pitchers available in the summer.

Very impressive, I’m sure.

In Cliff Lee's Case...

Expensive in terms of prospects.

I’m happy for Swisher and Gaudin but that is about it.

How much better are the Yanks going to be next year?

Add a few of Bay, Holliday, Chapman, Lackey and you are looking at an even better team then 2009
.
My guess is they will add Holliday, Lackey and maybe even Chapman. Gonna be scary good!

what was the last year the Y's didn't make the playoffs?

I don’t so much mind them winning as it always being the Yankees and 7 other teams.

Ah, that's right

Though I read on the Joe Podanski (sp?) that it’s been every other year since 1995 that they have made it.

That is correct.

Who would have thunk that it would have been the Rays to help break that streak?
