Are You Going To Spring Training?
It's that time of year again! Spring Training tickets for the A's will be on sale December 8th. The schedule can be found here.
If you haven't yet been to Spring Training, I would encourage you to take a weekend this year and go, especially with the way the A's are rebuilding. The young players in the system all have a real shot to make an impression on the big league club, and there will be real competition for both starting pitching roles and everyday positions.
So AN, when are you going to Spring Training?

I would go to spring training
But since the A’s wont spend money on the team I cannot see a reason why I should! I will spend my spring training money on Sharks tickets!
Thank you Al Davis for Michael Crabtree!!!!!
Every November
right around this time of year I think to myself, man THIS is the year I make it down to Scottsdale for ST. With a baby coming next year, I highly doubt this is the year I make it.
It’s always something right, Roseanne?

or take a tent.......
the desert is sweet at night! Love it! Wouldnt do it any other way. (Cheap too!) Do a little hiking in the morning while its cooler, spend the heat of the day watching baseball games and prospects, then go build a fire and prepare for the evenings festivities. (Mainly eating and drinking around the fire and talking baseball)
I can taste Spring Training already!

Usery Mountain Recreation Area.....
About 30 minutes from Phoenix Muni. There are a ton of good little campgrounds around Phoenix. If your willing to be a little further out, say about an hour, you could try Needle Rock Camping ground. Its small, but surrounded by great nature. Most camping sites are about $6 per vehicle, but you should always call ahead to reserve a space, and to ensure your not surrounded by RVs in an RV park masquerading as a camp ground.
Its cheap! That leaves plenty for Natural Light and food! If you like hiking, I recommend one of the Seven Summits of Phoenix. No better way to unplug than to go hike a mountain. However, ask questions, and BRING A TON OF WATER. I like to hike in the mornings and at night (depending on where we are, you can see incredibly well in the desert at night.) cause its cooler, and that leaves the heat of the day for baseball and baseball related activities.
Remember, when in doubt, PLAN EARLY, and prepare yourself for some good old fashion ‘outdoor fun’. The kind of fun we all used to do a whole lot more of as kids, and before we all got so digitally connected and obsessed with technology.
I CANT WAIT!! See you there?

In no way am I discouraging anyone's Arizona trip,
which you describe so beautifully. But I just want to point out that our obsession with digital technology needn’t preclude good old-fashioned outdoor fun even at home. There are lots and lots of great regional parks all over the Bay Area, great for walking around in.
My current personal favorites are Mt Diablo in the east and Huddart Park on the Peninsula, but there are dozens more.

I always liked Olompali,
which always feels so ignored to me…plus Sugarloaf and Jack London, and I LOVE Armstrong in Guerneville.

Every time I drive by Olompali
I say to myself, “I need to go explore that some day,” but whenever I pass I don’t have the time. One time I walked up to the little house, but that’s as far as I got.

I'd love to go some year
but I’m too busy this year. I’ve had some friends that have gone (evil Giants fans) and they said they had a blast.
Since I’m a Raider fan the football season is basically over for me at this point so I’m ready for baseball to be back.
Official Date
It was January 26, 2003.

I would remind you all.....
the reason the Raiders fell off after the 2003 SB debacle, was the MVP of the league and leader of the team got his neck broke the following year. I cant answer for all the nonsense since that point, but IMO, thats when the Raiders fell off the cliff, and we, collectively as Raider Nation, apparently, are all still in free fall……..

well, there was that little business of your 2002 coach not
changing the audibles while coaching against the 2001 coach. That was probably the beginning of the end.

I have to ask s0sNe@....
do you really think Raider fans don’t remember that Rich Gannon got hurt and the team went to hell after that?
What’s next are you going to tell me that the A’s started to struggle after all their good players were either traded or signed elsewhere?
By the looks of the comments.....
it seems as if many people still think the Raiders loss in the SB was the beginning of the end. I dont look at it like that. Just cause you lose the SB doesnt make you terrible. However, take the best player in the league and League MVP away in Rich Gannon, and its clear too see where the fall started. I remember the Brooks hit like it was yesterday. If Rich haddent lowered his head, his career would have continued and the Raiders would have still been one of the better teams in the league. Would we have made it back to the SB, I doubt it, most dont, but we still would have been good.
So in answer to your question, YES! Just read some of the comments and you will se that misconception is still prevalent in the thoughts of some. Even you state, “Yeah, it wasnt real deep into 2003” and if you meant that, you are obviously implying the Super Bowl cause Rich Gannon got hurt in Sept 2004, a full season and a half removed from the Super Bowl.

I will consider Spring Training
when it fits into my seasonal work schedule. Which is to say, when they hold it at some time of the year that isn’t between February 1 and April 15.

I hope to go this year
but since Erika is due early February it might be a little early to take off.
By the way, apparently the first ultrasound was wrong. We’re not having another girl. We’re having a boy.

I'd love to go, but not having a job is an issue on this one
Of course, if someone who’s not going wanted to sponser me to represent for them, I’m sure something could be worked out.

I'm about 80%...waiting for a few details to shake out. Pretty sure it'll be the weekend of the 19th.
Never been so – looking forward to it!!
That field looks sweet
Then I realized it’s not even December yet. So many loong, cold weeks to go…. :(
I wish I could
I’ve never been able to go. Something to look forward to in retirement (i.e. two or three decades from now).

Hmmm...
Maybe I should go. I have a good friend in Tempe I could stay with, and there are some pretty cheap direct flights to Phoenix that are available.
US Airways
Bakersfield to Phoenix roundtrip about $230. Just checked it ,I thought it would be cheaper.

I am going for sure, however I do no thave my dates set yet....
I connected through PHX yesterday on my flight back to the bay area and we flew right over Phoenix Municipal Stadium and it had me longing for baseball season, especially with how the Raiders are playing. Plus I work for a major Hotel company and I have two Hoels that I manage in the Phoenix Area, one in Scottsdale and one in Chandler, so it makes my accomodations easier.
I will again make the same offer that I made last year to anyone looking at going to ST and needs help with Hotel Reservations. Please send me an email and I will try to help you out with discounted hotel reservations. Last year there were a couple of people who took advantage of this and they were very happy!! I understand that I could possibly be bombarded with emails, but that is ok with me!!
There is no A in OFFENSE!!
Hi Berry Jo!!
One of my Hotels is in Scottsdale and it is 3-4 blocks from Scottsdale Stadium, where the Giants play, and it is a little over 4 miles from Phoenix Muni, where the A’s play. My other Hotel is in Chandler, very close to where the Angels play, and approx 10 miles from Phoenix Muni. However I can get a discount at any IHG Hotel (Intercontinental Hotels and Resorts, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Staybridge Suites, and Candlewood Suites.)
If you want a room at one of my two Hotels, the Hotel Indigo in Scottsdale or the Holiday Inn Express in Chandler, I can probably get you a pretty good deal, with the Indigo being more expensive than the HI Express, just because of their location and the fact that it is an upscale Hotel.
The other option would be for me to give you a booking link that will give you a 25% discount off of the lowest published rate. That is also a pretty good deal and all i would have to do is email the link to you and you can book the rooms online. If you would like one of my two Hotels, I would have to look at availability for when you are planning on going.
For anyone who is interested in looking at the Hotels you can go to www.ihg.com, we have many many Hotels in the Phoenix area. Plus if I email you the booking link you would be able to book discounted Hotel rooms at any of our Hotels around the world, so feel free to use it for any travel.
Feel free to email me for further information or just ask on here, I am happy to answer any questions that anybody might have. I hope that some people can take advantage of my discounts again this year!!
